ok so first ill let you know a little about myself. I just graduated high school and i start EMT-B june 1'st. I'v been lurking around these forums for a while and it seems like everyone agrees that if you want to be a good EMT(not just an emt, but actually a good one) it is extremely important to take at least one A&P class.

this one caught my attention because the site is shiny and the music is soothing :P

should i be worrying about this at all?
are there any other online courses that youd recommend?

and just so this thread doesnt become a "what are your intentions with my daughter" thread, ill say right now that im a young guy who wants to become an emt because i think it sounds like a great job. whether the outcome is good or bad, you get to have an impact on peoples lives every day. in 5 years i could be a firefighter, an rn or a paramedic; i havnt made up my mind because i havnt been exposed to the field itself.

my dads a cop, my moms an rn, public service is in my blood and i dont really want to be cop so EMT seemed like a great place to start. if any of you(i know theres actually quite a few of you) have a problem with that ideology i would please ask that you try to keep this thread on topic and try not to grill me about deflowering your sweet baby EMS.

A&P: good? waste of time? what are your thoughts

Check your local colleges. Often they may put the lecture portion online while requiring you to be physically in class for labs. A&P is one of those classes that one really should have a lab to get a good understanding of the basic fundamentals. You will also have access to more resources through the college as well as availability of the educators and other classmates through online chats.

By taking the class through the local college you also have a better chance of the credits transferring to whatever degree you decide later.

However, a college will often require you to take two A&P classes since one overview class is rarely enough for someone wanting a career in the health care professions. That doesn't mean you can't take one and say forget it to the rest and move on to something else. It probably won't be held against you for EMT-B or Paramedic school if you have no prerequisities to your credit. It will however be beneficial to you to be a better EMT and Paramedic.

a&p is never a waste of time. i just finished a&p 2 and its amazing how much you will understand afterwards. everybody is different when it comes to how they learn. there is no way i could have done a&p online but i can do other classes online without a problem. from my experience i wouldn't take it online but thats me.

the woman that pops on the screen for the add, seems like she likes to say "System".

Its only 80 bucks for a self paced learning system along with CEUs and Completion Cert. If you got $80 that your not going to absolutly need Id do it. I bookmarked the site and will be going there myself just to get a heads up since i have an actual classroom A&P1 this fall.

Go to your local community college. This class should have a lab.

hmmm well my mom is an rn and i asked her about her a&p class and she said there were no labs. this online class seems like a good idea. i have a lot of time to do it and its starting to sound like taking an a&p class is vital to becoming a good emt.

I checked out that website and found this:
Is UniversalClass™ Accredited?
UniversalClass™ is not an accredited school. We do not offer degrees, certifications, diplomas, or licensures.

Highly not suggested. Avoid.

ok then i definitely wont use universalclass but this site seems too be pretty legitimate. I think with videos, quizzes and "games" the online class could actually be very good. I really like the idea of an online, self paced a&p class so im trying to figure out a way to make this work

Do what you want (funny how people ask & then totally refuse to listen). You want a legitimate anatomy & physiology course, then enroll in a legitimate college with lab attached to it.

Sorry, I have had too many students attend those placebo and pseudo A & P courses that are either totally online or taught within the Paramedic course and find themselves lost when studies get in depth. I have not yet heard any student complain about learning too much A & P.

Most A & P will not transfer if there is not a lab attached to the course. There is a reason why hands on is preferred.

If you are really serious and want to make EMS or anything medical related a profession, spend the extra time and money and take a legitimate course. You will not regret it.

Didn't say they were. Do your research. Just giving you more options. There are labs required at least on one of those listed.
