12 Lead ECG and Pacing Inquiry

Hi! I am a preceptee for an ER medical doctor in San Diego. On a recent cardiac case, I overheard the cardiologist say that "All the ECG leads must be firmly attached, when performing transcutaneous pacing, because the pads that pace DO NOT analyze heart rhythms...There is NO device with pads that can pace AND analyze a heart rhythm." I was wondering if this statement is true? Are there any paramedics out there who happen to have access to a device where the pads that pace can also analyze the patient's heart rhythm without the 12 lead ecg leads being attached? If so, may I have the make and model of the device?Thank you for your time!

All transcutaneous pacers that I am aware of require a 4 lead, not 12, to be attached in order for the pacer to work. The pads can analyze a heart rhythm but they can not do so simultaneously while pacing.
