    Uncomfortable moment

This is a bit of a double edged sword IMO. On one hand, I currently work with an EMT who has a completely lifeless arm. While it is there, her has no control from the shoulder down. There are certainly limitations to him, but he does a good job. And in my career I have been partnered with...

Trick to hear BP Better in the Moving Rig???

Just remember that taking a BP (or hearing anything through a stethoscope) is like listening through a drum. Excess skin/fat or anything that prevents a flat and solid physical connection with the stethoscope will hamper the sound conduction. Remember the 2 soup cans and string phones we...

    Props to NREMT!!

So on 2-17 I took and passed my CBT for my NREMT recert. On 3-3, I sent in my competency form from my physician medical director. And YESTERDAY I got my new card in the mail!!! I am completely and utterly shocked. I have been involved with NREMT from basic thru medic and I have NEVER...

    When the lights go out

I'll 2nd that!!! But it also triggered a memory or two. I remember my first ambulance job. The trusty LP 10 in all its glory. 3 whole batteries to choose from, that cool creepy green screen. Then we got the little plate that sat under the paddles so we could use the patches. HOLY NEW...

    When the lights go out

I think advanced cardiac care would be the biggest sufferer. Obviously. we rely upon cardiac monitoring equipment to make sure we are treating a problem correctly. Without the ability to cardiac monitor, it will be very hard to give appropriate medications. The next biggest problem I see...

    ER/ED Tech Interview

Just remember that working in an ER is a lot different than being ambulance based. The key difference they will want to know is your understanding of teamwork. On an ambulance, you are essentially a self sustained unit who only has to play nice with your partner. In an ER, there is a...

    How to respond?

Exactly as Brown says. I have walked into houses before and had folks decide they don't like me for some reason and tell me "NO". If they are medically competent, they can sign an RMA and I let dispatch know over the recorded dispatch frequency. I then ask them to attach a writeup to the...

Post the # your test stopped at, and if you Passed/Failed

Every ambulance in the state of Wyoming is required to carry MAST/PASG pants. I can't remember the last time I saw them used other than to stabilize a pelvic fracture for transport. And YES, the medic recert test has some off the wall questions. Let us know how you did!! WM

    Accelerated EMT-P course

WOAH!!! Here goes my street cred , but I figure you should know my story. I went to TEEX and was in one of their first classes. Monday thru Friday, 8-5 for 4 months. Then I returned to the frigid north and did their required ride time. I had been a full mod intermediate for 4...

    Burnout, now where.

I will look into HealthOne. I am not familiar with them at all. As for the FD thing, I dunno if I want back into that. But thanks for the info anyway. WM

    Burnout, now where.

I have looked into it HEAVILY. Sounded great as I am a rabid outdoorsman and love the thought. But I never could get the pay where I wanted it to be. It was so low, I actually doubt I could keep my family fed. But, ohhh to dream  WM

    Burnout, now where.

K, here I am. A 10 year NREMT-paramedic who has worked most of his career with a Fire/EMS department. After 9 years, I got bored with fire and became a police officer and became our SRT (SWAT) medic. It was fun but not much EMS involved. After about a year of that, I broke my back. Surgery...

Well, Just got done with the CBT EMT-P recert. Another 2 years already?!?!?!? Test minimum of 80 Qs as i'm told and it booted me at 82. So I either did really good, or really bad. There were maybe 7 or 8 that were a TOTAL guess. 10 or 12 that were educated answers and the rest felt...

    Backboarding question.

That would definitely be worth looking at. I was unaware of the numbers that the KED provided. I have always had problems with KEDs fitting correctly (we have LOTS of obesity here) and I never liked the fact that it really limited my access to the trauma patient. Wy medic

    Backboarding question.

I can say that here in the WY, we use the LSB, Collar, Zofran (that is just our choice) and fluids. If the patients is to be kept on the board for any length (once in the hospital) then an NG is place. We don't have the ability to place field NG anyway. The KED is used here very little...
