I'm a carona Paramedic student and its horrible..

The last two posters are both correct. OP, I went through a lot finishing my program, COVID restrictions and much, much, more even prior to the pandemic. You’re close to the end. If and how you finish is entirely up to you and not the obstacles in your path. It’s not the wind you face on the...

I'm a carona Paramedic student and its horrible..

Emt257 - Did you fail out or did you willingly leave the program? Sounds like the latter. It also sounds like you still do have the end goal of being a paramedic. If so, why throw away 10 months of investment? No, it may not be exactly like you wanted or planned, but it wasn’t for many of us...

How many paramedics dump ice on hyperthemic patients in the field?

Woah. You work there? Is it contract work?

How many paramedics dump ice on hyperthemic patients in the field?

This is a great thread. Rich in knowledge as well as humor. In the ED, getting a rectal temp is easy on an altered Pt...most times. In the field, I’ve found it less simple. For a host of reasons. Great points on the cold fluids. We’ve given them in the ED per doctor’s orders with no issue. Got...

I appreciate your efforts to maintain quality culture. Sooo...about those vacations days...should I talk to labor about that?

The future of EMS and SAR

Not looking to get political at all and I’m as moderate as it gets. Yeah, I dropped some names. My energy is too valuable to my job and the community to get distracted and attached to political motives. Making the world a better place starts with our own actions.

The future of EMS and SAR

Perhaps not. It’s a massive state with a lot of places worth visiting and things you can’t see or do anywhere else. It has its value. But living there? Na.

The future of EMS and SAR

haha! True story. That state is a mess thanks to Newsom, Harris, Pelosi, et al. Some great people, places, and aspects, too. “A nice place to visit” is its max for achievement.

    Oregon set medic

Not sure how much you, personally, need to want to stay in Oregon. But if you need and want a set medic job, your best options other than CA are Michigan and Georgia thanks to film industry tax breaks. I’d say Vancouver, too, but BC EMS is much different than our system.

    McCormick Testing/Interview

Any of us who did the same should get our vitals and LOC checked, for we are likely hypovolemic by now!

Looking for some advice in getting experience

Yes, and sadly, you can say the same for several states’ fire academies. Most all states are ProBoard, IFSAC, or both, but there is a massively wide spectrum of extent and duration of training for FF1/2.

Looking for some advice in getting experience

Incorrect. Your typical CA-accredited FF1 academy dwarfs most states’ combined FF1/2 academy in hours, sometimes by more than double. CA, in most counties, is also the most competitive in the country for getting a fire service job. Some other states literally can’t fill the spots of baby boomer...

    Question- complaint

You may want to utilize a free initial consultation to an attorney that specializes in representing those who have lost or compromised their state licensure.

In California, the answer is a resounding YES. Especially these days.

    Question: Revoked EMT License

So you were basically an ED Tech? Even if they wanted you to have an EMT cert for that, you’re not necessarily practicing under it like a higher level license. What state is this? I concur with DrParasite about your “expiration” rather than revocation. I was thinking the same thing about your...

Requirements on becoming an ER Technician

I’ll echo PotatoMedic’s accurate statement. Like they said, look at the duties outlined in the job description. Even within the same state (i.e. California), you can have different duties and expectations within the same job title of ED Tech. It blows my mind that any ED manager, admin above...

I'm a carona Paramedic student and its horrible..

I’d put all your energy into securing legitimate employ in the field to get real experience. Realize that your course was a vehicle to get you to this point. The real learning happens on the job. Anything you think you missed in your program will he quickly remedied on the job and through...

Need resources to help me interpret 12 leads

I’m a paramedic and am continuing my pursuit of cardiology knowledge and interpretation skill independently. My primary resource is a lengthy text by Tomas Garcia called “12 Lead ECG: The Art of Interpretation”. This was referred to me by an experienced ED physician. It’s the best resource I’ve...

    ECG rhythms

Akflightmedic, I've read a lot of your posts. Dig the extensive background in and out of medicine. You are definitely not a new paramedic. I am, and I'm learning plenty from reading on this forum. Your post is right on. Again, I think my statement got misinterpreted. It was all about promoting...
