Hey all,
I am transferring this summer (active duty USCG) from CA to VA this summer (Hampton Roads) - anyone have insight on a good place to seek a part time Paramedic job out in the Hampton, Norfolk, Portsmouth areas? or who to stay away from?
I work part time here where I am currently...
I would like to hear some thoughts/discussions out there on what your service does in terms of - upon hiring a new Paramedic - what happens next? as far as training. How long from start to finish before he or she is "cut loose".
For my fellow CA Paramedics out there - you all know all too well...
Check out Jeff Cavalier he is the owner of Athlean X programs, but a lot of his content on his YouTube channel is free. He is a Physical Therapist - sports medicine, trains pro athletes - most notably trainer for the Mets. Anyhoo - his programs offer a serious overhaul in terms of true fitness -...
Hi there! and welcome - I am active duty and my command approved me to work part time. It is pretty tricky sometimes I have to swap duty days around when shifts get assigned. As its easier to manage my duty schedule rather than call and try to re-bid on a shift for that month. But totally doable...
Apple Ipad for the unit CAD...MDT. The software is called TC Tablet Command. We use MEDS for epcr, and used to use Panasonic tough books with a touch screen...but swapped to an older gen of Microsoft Surface...the batteries cant keep up with our call volume.....i miss the tough books.
Yep probably plan on it. There is a written test as part of the hiring process, and some do a skills test as part of the hiring process either prior to or after your interview. Once you are offered a position , expect a date to be set for your drug test and physical ability assessment, fit...
It's gonna be your policies, protocols, and field procedures. I'm imagining they gave you a book, thumb drive , or link to an app/website with these items. Just start reading them and knocking them out...big ones are determining death, know which hospitals accept what i.e Trauma Centers...
First off , good for you, I think age and what phase in life you find what it is you want to do or just finally found yourself in a place that you could do it. You will find all walks of life in this field...
I am also located in CA....I'm a norcal neighbor to the west of you in the East bay...
I am guessing AMR runs their interviews, and hiring process somewhat similarly through out the state, and possibly country being they are everywhere. If you cruise the forums there is good info on here that is pretty accurate. I did before I went through my AMR hiring process and it was solid...
Yes - it does/did. It will be the HARDEST 10 days of your life. They are long, and stressful so you have to show up ready to roll. The year you put in of didactic/learning all comes to the surface - they can tell who worked and who cruised. I absolutely felt prepared for my internships, had no...
Probably not if you are in fact located in CA (cannot speak for other states) but......especially here in CA. Notice that pretty much all position offerings have a standard list of requirements before they will even consider you.....medical examiner cert, ambulance driver cert, state card, and...
If you plan on working in the field in this state, you will be hard pressed to find a job without your state license, medical examiner cert , and ambulance cert....that's just to get an interview. Good luck in medic school.
I know some of the techs over at Kaiser Vallejo, most of them are emt's and a couple medics that do the tech thing for extra money as per diem. Word is its not an easy perm full time position to get due to, Kaiser is a pretty decent employer so they bid the positions on the inside...best bet is...
Hi Sky,
My "day job" (LOL) is at the Coast Guard base in Two Rock (Petaluma), and we send our students to the main agencies to do their ride alongs that do 911. We place them with AMR, and Petaluma Fire who are the primary 911 providers at least in that part of the county, I know that AMR runs...

I'm active duty Coast Guard stationed at the Training Center in CA... And I am a Paramedic (i work part time on the outside in a 911 system) however the Coast Guard didnt give me my Paramedic. I earned it on my own time/dime....
We do not staff "Flight Medics" regularly in our aircraft in fact...
