I appreciate the feedback. And yes okay, it's a busy system. I definitely am going to further my education level. I'm fairly young, really just looking for goals to set within EMS.
Hello all,
I've been having this thought recently, and I'm looking for some options or at least goals and ideas. I'm an AEMT working in a relatively busy system (15 calls in 12 hours). Unfortunately 80% of our call volume is intoxicated homeless people, or that population that takes advantage...
So today I had a pain in the butt lady code on me. The whole time we had her she was feisty, and reluctant to cooperate and just incredibly difficult. I went to start an IV on her with a nurse. We went in ready to restrain her and do what was necessary. The nurse began searching for an IV...
He died. Probably dead 20 minutes before the 911 call. You know, the hardest part was the fact that the ones who found him were 3 kids under the age of 10, and they kept asking if that man was dead. It's hard to explain that kinda thing to them.
So after working stand by at an event this weekend, I got my first cardiac arrest. It came out of no where, and turned to be a very stressful call. I understand why now in EMT class they stress CPR so much, but I'm noticing that a lot of students don't take it seriously. Everyone has a mentality...
I recently talked to an EMT in NV who was fluent in cardiac monitoring. Obviously a very useful skill to have, but how common is this? I know hospitals in my area require ED techs to have certification. I really am interested in learning more about monitoring.
I mainly use it on syncopal episodes to decide if I am comfortable allowing pt to AMA without ALS on scene. I've had a lady at 100/68 sitting, and as soon as I stood her up it dropped to 70/40. Obviously I'm not gonna kidnap her, but you can bet I got ALS to take over.
You know that's a very interesting point, and I definitely see where you are coming from. As someone who has been boarded post traumatic injury I understand the discomfort.
Just thought I'd share this story with you wonderful folks.
Last summer while coming back from a family vacation, my father (also an EMT) and I were driving home. About 20 miles outside of a small California town on a very empty two lane highway we came across a blockage in the road. After...
i just finished my NREMT CBT. Nervous because test cut me off at 120 about. Felt very streaky, row of questions I knew easily, and then row of questions I was lost on... Is there any chance I still passed .
Out of curiosity, does anyone else see people getting into this field, that they know do not belong. Especially if you know them on a personal level, and they have a quality about them that isn't suited for the high intensity and importance of this job. Whether it be ego, or laxidasical attitude...
I do. In 6 months I've come across 2 MVA that I would be an ******* not too stop at. I just carry basic bleeding control, basic splints, a tourniquet, and lots of gloves, as well as trauma shears, and other PPEs. When people know your an EMT they expect you to do something even if it's just...
