    Your pads won't adhere well if they are real hairy, thus reducing the effect of shocking, sometimes dramatically.

    How long do you do CPR for?

    When I first started doing this, all codes were taken in. Where I worked at the time, that was sometimes an hour transport time. Now, things like down-time, witnessed/unwitnessed, etc constiutes whether we even start it. And we usually call the doc to have it called after about 20-25...

    Aspirin Therapy for Chest Pain

    We give it here, but EMT's cannot, its an ALS thing. We give 2 baby aspirin and the only contra is an allergy.

    I've got tons of stories about run-ins with nurses like this. Luckily, only a small percentage of them exist. I never probably handle it correctly and tend to blow up without thinking it through. I like the idea of a liason...those usually have good results. Also, she lacked professionalism...

    Why did you choose to stop at BLS?

    Most of the EMT's here don't just because there is no significant pay increase for the amount of responsibility or time it takes to get your liscence and maintain it. A few have other reasons like family or personal life, but the above is the biggest.

    Laying on the Stretcher

    I've crashed on the cot before, especially coming home from long distance transfers. Anything shorter than an hour though, I can snooze up front. As for standbys, I'll stay up front with my shades on....looks bad if someone gets hurt and I'm crashed out in the back.

    I've only known one person to retire and he was somewhat forced to. He was 74 and always said they would have to force him to quit before he would. He had beenin EMS in that particular county for 40+ years and loved it....plus he said it got him away from his nagging elderly wife LOL. Anyway...
