How's everyone in So Cal? My family is on the opposite end of LA Co from all the fires, so they're fine, but damn, some of the pictures are freaking nuts, hope everyone else is doing ok..

Thanks. It's a bit rough because he was so young, so new to the Dept. The other guy on my Engine was classmates with him in Recruit Academy too, so we're doing our best to support him as well (aaaaand in much lighter news... it sounds like they made the calls to the 8 guys selected for the...

Huh. Most guys I know (and even most comments I've seen online) are all like "WTF was the Engineer and Officer thinking... they were waaaayyyy wrong to go around RR crossing gates"

RE: the CPR vs RQI thread (posting here because it's more stupid humor, but still) It could be worse, back in the day, before CPR ever existed, they used to blow smoke up your ...4th Point of Contact... in attempts to resuscitate people https://www.instagram.com/annaakana/reel/DCFDbwwStbF/

Whew, just finished my interview. Took right about 10 (maybe 12) min out of an alloted 40 min available.. Hopefully I didn't stumble too badly thru the questions lol In what's blindly obvious now in hindsight, should have cracked open FAA study over some of our non Air Ops specific SOGs I...

Survey finds Honolulu medics favor being merged into FD

Also interesting to note, is that EMS is currently under the Emergency Services Department. Aaaaaaand they feel the need to split off the Ocean Safety Lifeguards into it's own separate Agency, but want to fold EMS under Fire...

Survey finds Honolulu medics favor being merged into FD

Yup, our EMS is definitely understaffed. The island is roughly 600-ish sq miles, approx 1 million population on island at any given time, and they have 22 ambulances at full staffing. Compared to HFD which has 43 fire stations (and 63 companies).. More often than not, they're actually only...

Hmm... turns out our PSAP wants to direct car crashes to EMS Dispatch... Didn't see the crash itself, but the immediate aftermath, called 911 and actually asked for our Fire Dispatch lol, they asked if I was reporting an actual fire (which I guess makes sense from their point of view), said it...

Can you imagine this being the future of EMS

We've seen some UGVs used successfully in CASEVAC in Ukraine.... but outside of a battlefield where people are explicitly looking to blow up your ambulance, I don't see some big quad copter making any immediate civilian EMS use... Maybe some niche cases... but how is it going to load a Patient...

Well side effects wise, I'm more likely to need to start buying some Metamucil lol In other news, our Aviation Group is changing to a new* Hangar, so I volunteered** to help them out. Got to hang out with some of our pilots in between moving and helping set up stuff at the new spot, get tto...
