    Football Injuries

Thank you for your suggestions and ideas. Mostly thanks for the reminder to just concentrate on the basics...its easy to loose sight of that when we so rarely get special training requests. I most certainly will be brushing up on environmental emergencies and the heat index, and will get on...

    Football Injuries

My ambulance corps has been requested to provide a basic first aid course for the coaches and parents of our local area youth football league with an emphasis on common football or cheerleading related injuries. The idea is what to do when no EMT is at practice (all games have one) and before...

    Cadet Steals & Crashes Ambulance

Wow! That was quite a night. Breaking and entering, auto theft, drunken driving, public stupidity, career suicide, etc. - that will all look great on a resume.

    I Delivered A Baby!!!

Congratulations NomexMedic! Through all the nastiness we have to see on a daily basis, what a gift it is to help bring a new, healthy, life into the world. That ought to get you through the next few trying shifts. I actually almost got to experience a delivery in the rig this weekend, but it...

Trust yourself - your abilities and your knowledge - and relax. And remember to try and breathe occassionally. You will do fine. Please let us know when you pass. Good Luck!

    Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!! 2007 was my first year in volunteer EMS...my first shift was in January. Enrolled in an EMT-B class which I completed in December and now I sit and wait for the results. In 2008 I want to get "the card", get off the B team, and eventually start running some calls...

    Taking the EMTB Practical

And thanks to you too Ridryder! I agree that I was surprised at the passing rate for Jolt's class. We had a 50%+ passing rate, and most of the things people missed were due to nerves.

    Taking the EMTB Practical

Thanks Jolt. I confess that it feels pretty good, especially since my brain would not allow me to study anymore after Thursday and I was sure that I was going to miss something painfully obvious.

    Taking the EMTB Practical

Have to tell somebody. I passed my practical today!! I wasn't sure that I would be able to take it before I got started due to nerves - kept forgetting the whole breathing thing - but got through it. Now on to the state written exam on Thursday!

    Taking the EMTB Practical

Thanks very much for the words of encouragement. It is always good to hear that others feel the same way. Actually, we just had our last lab tonight and all of us seemed a bit surprised that everyone was feeling the pressure a litte. Knowing that has made the whole thing (a little) less...

    Taking the EMTB Practical

Thanks for the advice. Taking a deep breath and pacing imyself is definitely an issue for me right now - I gave up on relaxing a while ago though. It's kind of funny. You spend all this time practicing and learning how to do something like a trauma assessment, they give you 15 minutes to...
