Be wary about applying to pro-transport. As an on-call person they will schedule you for bat:censored::censored::censored::censored: crazy shifts and then tell you that you have to work, because you wrote on your new hire paperwork you were available. Something like 0430-1030 then back again at...
If there are so many NorCal EMT's why is the turn-over so high at Pro-Transport? I'd think that with a tight job market they would be more inclined to hold their job, even if it's not the ideal one. It seems like Pro-Transport does a mass hiring every few months.
You're a sick little pup, aren't you. I mean really. My care pockets are empty. If you want to run around searching the profiles of people who have different opinions than yours then you really should get some kind of posting disclaimer that says you're the creepy forum kid, or something.
I'm not discouraging anyone from anything; I'm simply offering an alternative point of view - That's what forums are for, in part. Grow some thicker skin. Stop getting all emo over it. Read your own posts and you'll see that the only right way is your way, which is barking mad egotistical...
Maybe it was like this several years ago, when you were looking, but in 2011 going door to door won't bear much fruit. You can disagree all day long, but when was the last time you looked for an EMS job? I completed my certs in February 2011 and was hired in April, 2011 - So unless you just got...
A lot of places in Norcal get up to 20 applications a day. Driving around in a suit will most likely be a giant waste of time and gas. Plus, most places in our area want e-mailed, faxed or intranet applications only.
Apply to the ads as you find them, but the economy and the overstocking...
The EMT-Security Guard is viable, but you'll be required to have a guard card, which is a couple hundred bucks + DOJ Livescan fees. There are so many EMT's in Northern CA that you'd be considered lucky to get a part time IFT job making pocket change.
You might see if you county/area as a...
I applied a few weeks back, got the online test completed and haven't heard anything since. In retrospect I should have probably left out the part about counting bullets in my garage, but live and learn. Live and learn.
Kind of crazy. I have a regular job (non-ems) that I cut back my hours to part time to make room for an IFT/EMT job that pays $10.50 per hour, also part time. The idea being to get some experience, pad the resume and hopefully move on to bigger and better things in the first responder world...
Applying in person seems like a mega waste. If it's a city, county or state agency they will have a posting up, and likely be putting you through the civil service process. In which case all the leg work involved with an in person application won't matter at all - Since the first hurdle will be...
They are strange.
I got hired else where, but prior to that pro-transport called me and left a message asking for an asap call back to set up an interview. I returned the call within 15 min, but got no answer and left a message. Two days later, after not getting a call back, I called again...
I finished EMT school in February, 2011 and just got picked up with NorCal Ambulance in the SF Bay Area. Orientation is next week. I'm excited nervous, but feeling pretty fortunate to have gotten hired in an enviroment where EMTs are said to be" a dime a dozen".
If you have to ask, you know the answer. EMS is a small world, or so I'm told. Burning a bridge at your current company may come back to haunt you. Your current company took a chance on you and hired you, would it be so far-fetch to take a chance on them, and work for six months?

I went ahead and sent an e-mail....and.....if you haven't already been called and hired, then it's over. All positions have been filled and they don't know when more spots will open up.
I sent my resume over a few weeks back and then they wanted me to drive down to pick up an application. They apparently can't fax me one, snail mail me one, e-mail me one or let me apply online. Kind of odd.
Good luck.
