    Movie Marathon Thread

I've read Dune, Dune Messiah, and Children of Dune. I've also seen the '84 Lynch movie, most of the 2000 miniseries, and the "current" movies Dune and Dune 2. The mini series was reasonably faithful to the books. It was also very long.... The Lynch movie abridged a lot and took some liberties...

    HEMS providers working in ED/Hospital

As long as you don't get stuck doing something that you can't walk away from if you're called to go... pretty much this!!!

    HEMS providers working in ED/Hospital

Whether or not you're a hospital based service, the problem is going to be that the transport nurses will end up potentially being counted on as additional staff within the facility. That leads to scenarios where the ED is a little short, so... hey flight nurses... can you help out over here...

    Havent renewed NREMT since 2012

You will have to submit 50 CE hours and retake the cognitive exam and likely the psychomotor exam. Being that you've been certified as an EMT-I and now you're lapsed both NREMT and Texas, at least you likely won't have to redo the entire course. However, those 50 hours will have to meet the 2016...

Can't find anywhere else to ask this..

I am going to echo the others as well and please accept my condolences for your loss. If the description you provided is anywhere near close to what happened, I can almost guarantee you that it was an extremely horrifying thing to witness. Compassion should be given because of this and for her...

    Rocket League

The only "rocket" game that I found fun was one called "Rocket Mania" and that was from about 15 years ago. I think it's still around and it's basically a kind of puzzle game.

    Accepted to RN bridge!

This is where I think that nursing education should go in the (relatively) short term. All RN's should go through the generalist pipeline. They get a good, broad education and then they get an idea of where they want to go for their specialty. Then have a post-graduation or post-licensure...

    Grad Degrees

Precisely. As an RN of 9 years in the ED (at the time I write this), I could very easily be an SME for teaching ED "stuff" on behalf of a nursing program, but I couldn't be even an adjunct professor unless I can show that my BS degree is relevant... Yep. I had an opportunity about 15 years ago...

What is the best way to place ecg leads without actually palpating the intercostal spaces? No one seems to ever do that.

This is just one of those things where as you gain experience doing the procedure, you just start noticing where you place the electrodes. You see where they’re placed and you notice the landmarks… Eventually you get to the point where you can place those electrodes reasonably precisely because...

Why can't Paramedics act off duty?

Sacramento County, not that big of an issue. 911 is basically exclusively ALS. If a BLS IFT rig shows up... As long as you're authorized to have an ALS take-home kit, you ride in if you can't downgrade the patient to BLS, you sign their report as the tech, and you notify EMSA that you witnessed...

Which Bay Area IFT company should I work for

KA has been around for a very long time. You don’t stick around for a long time without doing something right, and yes, they’re reasonably well-regarded. I dare say, better than most, at least back when I was more familiar with them. (Never was an employee there.)

Which Bay Area IFT company should I work for

I have not heard of Eagle, but I have heard of Bay Medic and Norcal Ambulance. I personally don’t think you can go wrong with either one of those. As far as Eagle is concerned, I really don’t know. But that all being said, you could probably do just fine throwing darts at any of those three and...

Why can't Paramedics act off duty?

Good Sam laws do vary from state to state. The basic idea is to encourage people to voluntarily help someone else who is in an emergency situation by removing any fear of legal or civil liability for acts performed in good faith. It doesn’t give one carte Blanche to do whatever is desired… but...

Newbie: What to do about feeling carsickness in back of ambulance?!

Ginger candy, prescription zofran ODT. Those do work to at least knock down some of the effects. Also look around for effective remedies for sea sickness. It's the same problem actually and seafarers have lots of experience with obtaining relief.

    Thinking about being a Paramedic

While one can dream… sadly, I agree with the above and is something that needs to change for EMS to progress.

    PLSI?

Transporting a patient requiring a legitimate "PLSI" to a facility that actually has that ability should be a no-brainer. HOW that gets accomplished is the question and you've pretty much nailed it. We shouldn't care all that much about transporting stable patient somewhere in the middle of the...

    Thinking about being a Paramedic

@MManley I am also also very much of the opinion that education (and furthering it) is what is going to be needed to successfully turn EMS from what's basically a job into a profession. While I don't necessarily agree that most of "us" are born, called, or fall into this job, I know people that...
