    Is It Time?

I haven't thought this out properly and just came up with it for this thread, so bear with me. But how about we drop the E from EMS? The vast majority of what I do (I can't speak for anyone else) has nothing to do with an emergency. It's running the elderly to the hospital for a chronic problem...

Dumbest thing heard on the radio

Over the weekend: "Ambulance XX upgrading to priority 1 [l&s], 5 minutes out from XX hospital." Dispatch: "Ambulance XX copy, do you need ALS intercept?"

Eric Holder: Police should carry drugs antidote

I think the point is to bring national attention to the problem with the hope that local agencies will follow suit.

Need Guidance for my career in EMS

Do not take this for granted. Carefully read all application instructions and fill out the information they ask for. I wouldn't go beyond what they ask for - so if they want to know if you've ever been convicted of a felony don't volunteer anything beyond that - but if they want to know if...

    Newbie

EMS isn't for everyone, especially if you're trying to do it professionally. Sometimes you have to take a class to realize you're not interested in something. There's no shame in taking EMT and then moving on to something else.

A combat tourniquet is big and bulky? It can fit in my pocket. But to answer your question: cravats.

Anyone can sue anyone for anything. This will go no where.

    Waze App?

I love Waze. I don't normally use it on my day-to-day because I already know what speeds I can do where without getting in trouble, but it's crucial when I'm road tripping in warning me of cops, traffic jams, etc. and planning my route around them - or just as importantly telling me I might as...

    100% Directionless Thread

If the road to hell is paved with good intentions, I wonder where a road paved with do-your-best-to-minimize-civilian-casualties intentions leads. I have never personally cheered for death. A bit too macabre for my tastes, but to each their own. I guess even self-proclaimed healers lose sight...

The only difference between a terrorist and a freedom fighter is perspective. You might say that the side that kills the most children are the true terrorists.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-KKvIg9d0Kw It's not pretty, but VICE New's YouTube channel has raw footage of the four Palestinian children killed by an Israeli airstrike. Moderator's Edit: Warning - Graphic Video

    Another driving record question...

I'm not a religious person, but I have always thought the idea behind "he who is without sin cast the first stone" is a pretty solid one.

    Another driving record question...

No one should make blanket statements without knowing individual situations.

    Transition to MDTs

This is roughly how our system works as well. You get toned via the radio but mark en route and in quarters on the MDC. The rest of the traffic (on scene, patient contact, under control, en route to hospital, at hospital, clear from hospital) is done over the radio. All updates are sent to MDC...

    Thermometers

I still don't understand what you mean by your protocols requiring you to cool prior to transport. So if you don't cool to under 102, you won't transport? I just envision you sitting outside on a ball field throwing cooling pack after cooling pack onto a comatose kid and frantically checking...

In need of help: study partner for EMT-B in Houston

Something that helped me commit the assessments to memory (and I used this in other areas of my student life) is copying them down by hand onto a piece of loose leaf. That way you're not only reading them but transcribing, so you can guarantee a higher level of engagement with the materials...
