    Requiring EMT Training

Out of my EMT class of eight, I know of two who have yet to test. One (a high schooler) did it because she thought she might be interested and knew that riding with a rescue squad volunteer would look good on a college app, and one still hasn't tested for what I'll describe - for lack of a...

    Selling EMS memberships?

http://www.chesterfield.gov/EMSPassport/ They do! I think it's a fantastic idea, tantamount to insurance. Probably a little riskier than insurance for the county, but money in the pocket is money in the pocket. It's a program where you pay a subscription fee ($30 for individuals and $60 for...

    Instilling Confidence

You really can't. Most everyone is going to be tentative their first few times on the truck. Once you gain a little familiarity is when you start to gain confidence. But I'm not sure that's something you can teach or replicate in the classroom.

    Volunteer Interview

Virginia is the exact opposite of that, TJ. Volunteer squads are overstaffed and will often require a year+ of experience prior to even considering you. They do much of the heavy lifting during the nights/weekends in the counties. That said, my interview for the volunteer agency I'm a part of...

Eric Holder: Police should carry drugs antidote

We've been able to, as BLS providers, administer narcan intranasally for a while now in my system. If I were to do so it wouldn't become an ALS call. I'd be responsible for changing out the drug box at the hospital, etc. My presumption is that LE would administer narcan concurrent to contacting us.

    100% Directionless Thread

I requested a crew change. I wish personality conflicts were taken into account but I'm relatively new to the company so I have a feeling they wouldn't care if I told them the real reason I wanted a switch. I made up something instead.
