RFI. Anyone know what's up with AMR in NorCal.?

re Try working rural EMS with 2 ambulances on duty for 1400 sq/mi. We did 911 and ALL the transfers from the local bandaid station ER to the CVA/Trauma/Cardiac centers out of county which would remove 1 of 2 units from the county 3 hours at a minimum. Leaving the entire 1400 sq/mi to 1...

    Phoenix Medics Tests Google Glass

re That's all fine and dandy for 10 minute medics with no scope of practice. You have to look at the bigger picture with medics in rural and suburban setting with 2+ hour transport with truly critical patients and absolutely no help but BLS volunteers who you just hope and prey remember CPR...

RFI. Anyone know what's up with AMR in NorCal.?

So ugh Mr EMS professional, if nobody breaks the line and comes to work who exactly will be taking care of the patients you care so much about? It's simple really, like any other career where there is a hierarchy if you don't like your pay etc etc your actually earn it by upgrading to the next...

    Pt w a Dr for a wife??

That was a blanket statement not directed solely at you. There were many errors in the scenario as given. First is knowledge of protocols. Every EMS system I have worked has the same solution for MD at a scene. They can back off, assist or assume all patient care. Allowing this now irritated...

    Pt w a Dr for a wife??

No, when they screw up they need to be called out on it. We don't need coddled providers who have poor decision making capabilities. That is exactly why EMS in a lot of areas is the way it is. The Medical Directors have no faith in the technicians it has to allow to work in the system.

    AMR narritive help..

Are we talking BLS IFT or 911? Though it really should not make a difference as a well written narrative should happen regardless

    Pain management

Not exactly the same thing now is it. But to answer your question if coaching didn't help then yes I would and begin to question the validity of my assessment. I treat patients and not machines. Pulse oximetry has a lot of variables that can affect it including lag. But then again I would also...

    Pain management

Something I've noticed in my years as Paramedic instructor is students who already work in a 911 system as EMTs come in with a bias already. When I preach pain management to students I get the usual response from them "my partner this, my partner that" so unfortunately this becomes a...

    Pain management

Also remember that not all pain will cause increases in VS so this isn't as accurate assessment as most think. People with (true) chronic pain can actually have there VS lowered (paradoxical) from acute exacerbation of chronic pain.

    AMR job, Any TIPS?

Appointment no, and yes ops manager is generally in house though is typically busy. Somebody around the base can typically lead you to the person you want to speak to as an alternative.

    AMR job, Any TIPS?

Also go in to the individual main bases for each System and talk with the ops manager and fill out a app in person / leave a resume. So when they review online apps your name and face will be familiar. It's an interesting time for all of these divisions right now due to negotiations

Calling the arrest / talking to family.

Advise family of what is going on during the resuscitation so they know you/we are doing everything we are trained to do. Once I terminate efforts I seek out the parent/spouse to tell them there loved one has died. Do not use euphemisms. Use dead, died, has died. Once that has occurred I...
