Strategies for Dealing with Nuisance Calls/Frequent Fliers

Had the same in another county I worked in. You can go 2 routes at the same time to curb the behavior. Start logging all calls complaint to dispatch vs actual complaint. Have your upper management perform a usage study on the patient over the last year. Present it 1. to law enforcement for...

    AMR Bay Area Hiring Process

Operations in Norcal will vary slightly in that some Operations are performing their own PAT by internal staff trained in the application o the PAT. Test should be uniform regardless

    Running a code

When you do get that call take a deep breath. I know it's easy to say, but really it works. All it takes is just one long slow deep breath to allow you to get your thoughts together and slow the whole scene down.

    First Aid for Brownies/Girl Scouts

Talk about burn treatments IE no home remedies like butter or other salves ( will cause more pain when scrubbed off ). The importance of calling 911 for anyone not acting right, or when they can't wake up mom or dad etc etc. These are really fun thing to do with these young kids

    Value of NYC Volly Work?

Yes understood. I spent 10 years as a volunteer firefighter / first responder. All the while working either FT on a unit or in the ED. Never saw it as work and only left it when I couldn't devote enough time to it and to open the slot for somebody else.

    Value of NYC Volly Work?

Aye true, but the way it was presented by OP as getting in the way of getting overtime will make someone bitter about it in a hurry. As he clearly stated he felt "working for free" was a negative

    Value of NYC Volly Work?

Because tue minute you begin thinking about it as a "job" or "working for free" and not simply as helping your community out you are setting yourself up for an early burnout which doesn't do anybody any good.

    Value of NYC Volly Work?

If you look at volunteer ems work as working for free then it is not for you.

    Unsedated Cardioversion

Same, have performed a dozen or so cardioversions and have only sedated 1. If they were stable enough for sedation then I would use Verepamil which worked in all but 1 patient. By that point he did become unstable and was to hypotensive to use sedation.

What do you typically do in a Transport EMT job?

You get the chance to practice your history taking technique, learn home medications, non stressed physical exams, listen to a ton of lung sounds, build relationships with Ed and other medical staff at various facilities, learn the area and so much more. Sure everyone wants a 911 job but the...
