    Shoulder straps

I use them every time now that we are using the X strap system with our Strikers. Before that I was not very good at using them. It was almost impossible to get a good fit on the pt.

    No ETI.

When we started the to use the I-Gel our ET use has decreased a lot. I think the biggest reason for that is our first responders usually have an I-Gel placed. If the airway is good we leave it alone.

To Degree or Not to Degree. That is The Question.

I worked for a place that started to require an AAS. The requirement was dropped after a couple of years when they failed to get enough medics or hired. There is even a problem getting good emts. Our area offers what I feel is a good starting wage and it keeps increasing. For some reason...

To Degree or Not to Degree. That is The Question.

How long have colleges been offering a degree for paramedic? I got my cert. 30 years ago and I cannot think of a college that offered a degree in EMS.

    EMS Salary question

I work for a metro service and a rural service in the area I live. I make seven dollars less in the rural area and you have to be on call. Most of the rural areas that I am familiar with require some on call time. The on call time seems to be a big reason some areas have a high turnover.

Post the # your test stopped at, and if you Passed/Failed

Took the medic test instead of going thru another refresher course. Stopped at 87, I passed. Happy as can be. The last time I took the test was 30 years ago.

Good luck on the flight job. Good changes I hope. Time to slow down a little. Moved to a hobby farm, still working my first medic job in the metro. But, I also got hired by the local ambulance service. 100 miles from a trauma center or a cath lab. I've seen more helicopters in my year...

    Agency PR

Our PR is mostly going to special events for show and tell. We are reminded often how we are a traveling billboard and will get a call from the director if there is a concern or complaint about us.

    Traveling paramedic?

The same is true for Minnesota. Many placed have good starting wages and I believe if you have your National you would be good to go.

Yes I do. But at times it's the other way around. I am running into more pt.'s younger than me that look like crap and I began to think I have been blessed with good genetics. It's not dying that scares me. It's how I'm going to die.

    Experience Pay

As sad as it is to say, a lot of depends on how well you can sell yourself to the manager. A three year person that has not work as a medic or EMT would start at the bottom. Most of the people that we hire will start at their years of experience level if they have worked .5 or better for that...

We will give year for year experience. If you have 10 years, you will start at that level.
