    rescue 3 techincal training

I have rescue training. It varies from state to state. NC has an incredible technical rescue curriculum that I have been plugging my way through. I lack about 3 classes for my general rescue then you can start on a specialty. I have some basic ropes for low angle and we are going to have a...

    Reading textbooks before classes start

I am the opposite. I take notes like a fiend. If I don't my ADD takes over and I don't pay attention to what the instructor is saying. I may never look at my notes again but just by writing down what the professor said helps me retain the information. I also found that reading the chapters...

    AAS degree or certificate

Go for the degree. I have a bachelors in Conservation Biology already and the only thing I have to take is a psych class and then just the core paramedic stuff. It takes the same amount of time if I go for degree or cert (18 months) so it's a no-brainer.

i was told i have to get a haircut?!?!?

Hell yeah, I look like a deranged Q-tip with long hair. I will never cut it short again. So it is a big deal. If a company told me I couldn't wear a bun I'd quit.

    flirting with ER staff

In my neck of the woods this goes on all the time. County EMS is known for being the biggest Man:censored::censored::censored::censored::censored:s in the state. Not only are they flirting and f*cking the nurses they are doing their partners as well. LOL! I can't say I will ever date...

Me too...... Long week-- started a new job part-time w/ a private service and my second day there the owner offered me full-time hours. It's a great opportunity but I never thought it would happen so fast and I'm going to have to tell my other part-time lab job that I'm leaving. They have...

    Options for the New EMT

Yeah I know it's entry level and openings are posting continuously on the USAjobs site, but it's not a shoe-in kind of job. There's a lot of people with a lot of experience who are applying for those jobs. Maybe if the OP has some FF experience or a redcard it would be different but that was...

    Dnh/dnr

I work for a transport service and about 80% of the people we pick up have DNRs. They usually hand them to us with the face sheet and the rest of the paperwork and we keep it on the clipboard while we transport. The other thing we have is a MOST form-- Medical Orders for Scope of Treatment...

    clinicals

Yeah my state doesn't require any clinical hours for EMT-B training. It's pretty much a firefighter thing here though. You can't really get a paying job as an EMT-B unless it's a FF.

    EMT drop out?

My EMT-B class had 42 people in it and we ended up with 15 that took the final exam and all passed to go to the state exam. All 15 of us passed state. It was full of redneck, volly firefighters who had barely passed HS.... My EMT-I class had 17 people in it. We lost 3 on the final exam and...

    Options for the New EMT

Good Luck with no experience trying to get in w/ the forest service...... but phlebotomy is a good skill to have. It's what I started out with. You might also want to look at Med assistant jobs. That's what I'm doing right now for a weight loss program.

    Volunteer SAR

I volunteer for a rescue squad that has EMT-I level ambulances with paid and volunteer staff AND a very active SAR team. We are lucky in that the ambulance work pays for our SAR work. This year I took a FUNSAR course and passed my SARTECH II written and practical exam. You can check out NASAR...
