Students, what should we do with them?

As a current student, I would say that it's probably better to fail during training than after. My AMR clinical was just 3 days ago, and while I did choke on a simple patient SAMPLE interview, I felt like I did well during a car vs. motorcycle trauma. I was on a dual-medic unit and, within...

Differences in Classroom and Ride alongs

Long story, but circumstances are leading me to get something fast upon graduation and then continue my education from there. AMR has the city transport contract and I hear they are rather difficult to get hired on with, so while I do intend to apply with them, they certainly won't be the only...

    Routine, but not for me

Got to give Leader credit, they did a great job of sound insulation. Inside the stretcher bay, the siren was audible, but very far from loud. As for power, I have no interest in that anyway.

    Routine, but not for me

The funny part of that is that I couldn't be any less of a thrill-seeker.

    Routine, but not for me

Same here, but that's just a minimum.

Differences in Classroom and Ride alongs

We had 6 or 7 calls, all but 1 were chest pain. The other was car vs. motorcycle. Out of those, we had 3 or 4 transports, 2 refusals, and one with no need to transport.

Differences in Classroom and Ride alongs

Wow! Are you sure we're not the same person? I also am in EMT-B training, studying trauma now, and also did my first clinical yesterday, a 12-hour shift on an ambulance, and also walked away from it feeling 20' tall and rocketproof. Is there any one call that stands out for you? Our last...

    Routine, but not for me

I did the first of my 3 clinical rotations yesterday, a 12-hour shift aboard an AMR ambulance (the other 2 will be ER shifts). Hearing the siren come on was really no big deal. The rush hit when I first made contact with the patients. We had 6 or 7 calls, the last of which was a significant...

    final exam for emt b

I am also about a month out from NREMT and am taking the approach of study by repetition, be it practical scenarios or reviewing text material, being careful not to go over things so much that I forget them (yes, this is entirely possible).

Is it a bad choice to train to become an EMT/Paramedic then work into being an RN?

Whatever the motivation, is learning ever a bad idea?

    Misanthropy and EMS

As new EMS students go, I'm older than most and have already been through a career in IT, so maybe it's just a matter of exposure. However, some of my classmates are also already less than fond of humans. We got into a discussion about it during a study session and started calling ourselves...

    Misanthropy and EMS

First, I did do a search and did not find a previous thread quite like this one, though I did see it mentioned in one post during the Atheist thread. I got into a discussion with an appreciable # of my classmates and was somewhat surprised to learn that we could all be called "misanthropes"...

    EMS TV shows

As mentioned before, it doesn't matter if it's accurate as long as it draws viewers. It's about money, not realism. I'm still in EMT-B school and have yet to even see spider straps used with a longboard on there. Interesting how different people here will see different things depending on...

Music video for the new CPR.

There was CPR going on in that video? Didn't notice... As for the first one, I couldn't take it seriously after watching the first 15 seconds.

    Hello! I'm new here . . .

Hi, Peachy. I'm not far ahead of you, I am in EMT-B class now and will be done in just over a month. As for the hours, I think you might mean that you will have 20 clinical hours rather than credit hours (12 on an ambulance and 8 in an ER (at least)). Which text are you using? Good luck...

    Uncomfortable moment

My best friend has been in a wheelchair since age 5, and there's not a single disabled bone in his body; he simply doesn't walk. However, he has degrees in both automotive repair and occupational therapy. IMO, not being able to use his legs makes him better at both. He can (I've seen him do...

Better yet, go to their offices if possible.

    Privacy and EMS

Well...that part of it seems to be inevitable, coworkers either find ways to learn about you or they just make stuff up, LOL. Hmm...maybe I should find a way to wear a hooded black cloak and carry a large scythe once I get on a rig, that would tend to discourage that, LOL.

    Privacy and EMS

Seriously, congratulations! I have no doubts that there are others also older than I am who could do it, I just don't think I could make it. Besides, frankly, I don't want to be a firefighter.
