    ASA in Chest Pain

Unless it's psychologic, I highly doubt the Pt is going to report a relief in CP from ASA in the field... AND it's given all at once. What protocols are you referencing? NJ EMT-B's can't directly give a Pt ASA anyway...

    EMT-P written exam...Passed!

Congrats! I'm a horrible test-taker, and was nervous as anything after the computer stopped at 140 questions lol. After I got that part out of the way with, the practical was a breeze. Good Luck!

    wounder which state to pick?

You still have to take the whole EMT class even if you're a nurse. If an EMT/Nurse wants to become a Paramedic it's much easier, as all you have to do is ride time and then challenge the test. ...But yeah, work on high school first.

    Drug Shortages

We did about a year ago, but since then they've been in the normal bristojets. The 50mL vials the D50 came in was a royal PITA to draw up...

    minitor 3 help

It's set to a fixed duration alert. It needs to be reprogrammed so the alert does not cut the dispatch off.

    Short handed during arrest

Pretty much it. It's a little easier here with 2 medics; If we rendezvous with BLS enroute to the ER we can just kick the EMT out of the back (nicely worded, of course) and have two ALS providers during transport. If it's my call and we're on scene, I'll just have my partner drop the tube...

New/paramedic to be biggest fears :s

After thinking about it for a while, I feel pretty comfortable in my skills that I can handle any sort of patient that is thrown at me... It's the other factors on scene that can make me tense. We respond to some less-desirable housing and apartment complexes, and rarely have police on scene...

New/paramedic to be biggest fears :s

This. Everytime I tell BLS to head to the hospital without L&S, it's like a little part of them dies inside lol

    High school senior (NJ)

I got my EMT-B cert when I was 16 (summer before my junior year of HS). As A 16 year old I was able to be a Cadet EMT on my volunteer squad. It all depends on the rules of the individual Squad as to what an EMT under the age of 18 is permitted to do. In my case, I still didn't technically...

Anybody work somewhere else as a provider other than an amb or hosp?

Another job was a private ALS/SCT/BLS company that has a contract with a popular music venue. I got to watch concerts all summer long, and deal with a whole lot of drunks/assaults. Fun Stuff.

Anybody work somewhere else as a provider other than an amb or hosp?

I was an EMT at a State Park. We wore the same uniform as the Lifeguards (shorts and a T Shirt), and got to sit on the beach for 8 hours. I got to kick my sandals off at 0900, and put them back on at 1700 for the drive home... Probably my favorite job so far. As far as skill wise it was...

    EMS Conferences

I've gone to Baltimore a few years in a row, mainly just to go to the Expo and look at the new products and such. I had all of my CEU's prior to going, but I think I'm going to actually attend some of the classes next year, since I recert in June.

What happens if you perform CPR on a non arrest

I've seen this exact situation. Opened up the doors of the BLS rig to find BLS doing compressions and bagging an unconscious Pt. As I sat down on the bench seat I could actually see the carotid pulse... After some Narcan was given and he miraculously regained adequate respirations, they all...

    Hats off to medics

Unfortunately, it's not a required protocol for every patient here. I do it on every ALS patient, but some people don't.

    Hats off to medics

It may be a basic skill (not EMT-basic, but an "easy" skill), but it can be overlooked. I've seen medics bring in patients who exhibited textbook CVA symptoms, but failed to check a BGL (which was in the 20s). Their response: "well he's not a diabetic, so I didn't think of it..."

Paramedics as ER techs in Philly?

If we were able to do it around here, I'd probably take the job providing I could function in my full scope of practice. I'd get to wear pajamas to work (scrubs), and I wouldn't have to drive 45 minutes to an hour away to another ALS project. Really? I thought that was common. A lot EMS...

So I want to get a gun

Unless it recently changed, the permits are good for 90 days, with another 90 days if an extensions is filed. Technically, it would be possible to apply for 6 permits at once, as the One-Gun-a-Month law applies.

    LifePak 12/15 Mount

We have that mount in one of our SCT trucks that was purchased as a demo a year or two ago. Once it's in the mount, you can't really access the top or back pouch. Since we hook the Pt up to the monitor at the bedside on SCT transports, it's really not that much of an issue as the BP Cuff and...

    LifePak 12/15 Mount

A lot of times it's actually easier using the COM port plug from the LP12. The bluetooth in the 12's as an afterthought on Physio's part, and is sometimes finicky. The LP15 is more integrated from the factory, and works 100% every time.
