The states need to take over EMS

Do you have any evidence to back this up?

The states need to take over EMS

Comparing EMS reform to an anecdote about dentistry in the UK doesn't make sense. And I'm not saying that Fire and Police don't receive federal money, but you are yet to make an argument that shows funding EMS in the same way would lead to a worse system. No other country spends as much on...

The states need to take over EMS

Those were merely examples of ways in which this country is failing it's own population, I didn't say that EMS would fix the problems. If we can trust our policing and our fire protection to local government, why can we not do it with EMS? Everyone else in the modern / developed world seems to...

The states need to take over EMS

I think Medic one is actually a very good example, and comparing it to bullet train is ridiculous. (On a side note, Public mass transit saves people money and creates more jobs in the long term compared to increasing airport / road capacity.) This country needs to accept that we're not...

The new reality of "scene safe..."

Where is this firearm kept? What happens when your non-government healthcare provider shoots someone? If you feel that cops don't get sufficient range time, how much less are these paramedics going to get...? No one is saying train the PD up to paramedic standard. I was a battle casualty drills...

The new reality of "scene safe..."

The Colorado system mentioned by Tigger sounds interesting. Should the emphasis be more on casualty evacuation? The RPM triage stuff can be taught pretty quickly, as can the military style casualty drills... PD attend a one day course that teaches them how to use those elastic trauma...

The new reality of "scene safe..."

Instead of training the Medics to be some kind of cop-lite, is it not easier to train PD? They manage in the Army with Battle Field First Aid, and I believe something similar to this ended up happening at Virginia Tech. Medics are a valuable and expensive resource and I don't think they...

'Seven killed' in Wisconsin Sikh temple shooting

Before the dust from the Aurora shooting has settled, it appears that there's been another shooting. 'Seven killed' in Wisconsin Sikh temple shooting - BBC News There were EMS issues identified in Aurora, I hope the 911 providers here will have had a chance to learn from them.

Which services require spinal immobilization for penetrating trauma?

My county can be found here. Backboard isn't mandated, it depends on the PT. GCS>12 / unstable might be likely, but I can see situations where you woudn't have to do it.

What do you have in your pockets?

Have you ever thought about something a bit more... legal? And that has more stand-off, like pepper spray. It might be a foot long but you've still got to get close to use it.

What do you have in your pockets?

Where do you work that you feel the need to carry that around with you?

What do you have in your pockets?

 A 12 in knife sticking out of your boot?

What do you have in your pockets?

A few pens, some gloves, something to take notes. Sometimes chewing gum... That's about it. I don't need or want cargo pockets to be honest. I don't like having things swinging around on my legs like that.

    Splinting of A Fractured Sternum??

That's a little bit much, I fractured mine and I could breathe ;) It hurt a lot but that was about it, and no worse than the broken ribs. I wonder if your ITLS instructor is on here....

    Shifts in California? Hours?

That all sounds good, just be aware that there are a lot of Hospitals in the Bay area so transport times are pretty quick. Likewise, with definitive care being so close, there is often not a lot that the Medics do let alone the EMTs.
