    Can We Talk About Methadone?

They’re both opioid receptor blockers, they just work differently..

    Can We Talk About Methadone?

Yes. I’ll take 92% over a patient in withdrawal any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

    Can We Talk About Methadone?

Ehhhhhh, now you’re moving to a different topic. The theory is that methadone is pharmaceutical grade, so a controlled purity, and can be tapered by a physician. The truth of the matter, and most in recovery will attest to this, is that it’s just trading one addiction for another and they’re...

    Can We Talk About Methadone?

Methadone is a long acting opiate, so anything you’d see with other opiates would apply. Good on you for not slamming the narcan. He’s still breathing and satting fine on oxygen, absolutely zero reason to toss him into withdrawal.

Anyone ever use an Amplified stethoscope

I bought one when I started my ED nursing job, but found it annoyingly heavy and mostly unnecessary for what I needed. I bought a cardio 4 to replace it and it’s met my needs.

How do EMTs deal with suicidal adolescents?

What is tri school? My junior and senior year I went half day to my regular high school and half day to career center or tech school or whatever it’s called elsewhere in the country.

How do EMTs deal with suicidal adolescents?

True, just pointing out that I was in fire school and emt school during the last two years of high school.

How do EMTs deal with suicidal adolescents?

I went to career center during high school and graduated with my fire and emt card, got my first FD paycheck (part time) the summer after I graduated.. Now, in terms of age and years in the pension system, I’d say I’m 3-5 years ahead of most everyone else on my department.

Narc storage. How are you doing it?

This will probably be driven by your state board of pharmacy, it is for us. They’re generally pretty cool about answering direct questions “hey this is what I’m going to do, does it comply with your rules?”

Narc storage. How are you doing it?

My advice is based on my own state's board of pharmacy rules, please double check with yours to verify compliance. First and foremost, schedule 2 drugs (fentanyl, dilaudid, morphine, etc) are the only meds that need to be double locked. Schedule 3 and 4 drugs like versed, ketamine, etc do not...

    AI and Medicine

I had an ED patient once who worked deep in the back end of Epic (one of the major hospital electronic records systems) at a different hospital. He said most hospitals only use epic to a small fraction of what it’s capable of, and that it’s ability to pull from hundreds of current and past data...

    COVID VACCINE - The Megathread

I stopped after the first booster and won’t get another. Between having Covid twice and three shots on top of a fairly strong immune system, I’m comfortable that I’m covered..

Where are all the medics going?

Is there anywhere that 3rd service/private EMS pays enough to be a career? Combine that with the increasingly aggressive nature society takes towards healthcare providers and public servants, plus the massive push for our kids to go to college beginning at early education, and it's no wonder...

    Humoral EZ/IO and Lucas Devices

I loathe the humoral head for so many reasons, most notably because it’s so damn easy to pop it loose. I have yet to see any data that actually quantifies how much faster or better it is than the prox tib, only that it’s “better”. “Better” is fine and good until you’re trying to convince the...

Thoughts on RNs being allowed to challenge Medic exam?

There is a respectable accelerated BSN I could have taken but it was like triple the price.
