    Coroners in your service.

One of our local family physicians is the coroner. Her duties are very limited, she essentially just tests fluids, doesn't do full autopsies. I support the medical examiner line of thinking. A forensic pathologist should be the one making the final ruling on a death.

    First official weekend done

18 transfers in 2 days? Wow! I'd kill myself, lol. I'm assuming they were all short distances then, our transfers are all at least 1.5 hours one way.

    Canada, eh?

From things I've seen on this site, EMT-B is more like an EMR. I don't think Ontario has EMRs.

    "Ambulance Attendants Sued"

Yeah, that's why I posted this here...we've been discussing it at my practicum, but none of us here are ALS, so we are not experts on the topic.

    Pointless Radio Terms

"This is 9-1-1 dispatch." Well, who else would that be on that channel?

What was your biggest screw up ?

Dropped a stretcher with a pt. I pulled it out, but it was a bit too low, so I wanted to raise it up a bit. I thought the little wheels were still on the floor of the ambulance, but apparently not....*CRASH* Thankfully, a really friendly middle-aged patient, we had been talking for the entire...

    Canada, eh?

You can find a lot of this info on the ACP website: collegeofparamedics.org. Go to the "employment" section to look for jobs. As far as pay...rural hourly ranges from $10-$16, industrial daily is $200-300.

    The dreaded ACP Exam....

Interesting to know, ECG was gonna be one of the few things I planned on reviewing thoroughly.

    for everything 12 lead

Thanks! I'm only required to read 3/4-leads at my level, but this is certainly good info to know, IMO.

    I Can't Breathe! Help Me!

We don't have prepackaged Combivent on our BLS ambulances, but we are taught how to mix Atrovent and Ventolin (which are on all BLS ambulances) and free to use it. In BC, Atrovent is not in the BLS scope, so neither is Combivent. I don't know about other provinces.

    a female perspective, please

Haha, reading this made me laugh, one crew here just went through a 4-day Third Watch marathon...I wanted to hang myself, lol.

    Stuck in my head

Everyone's gonna hate me after this one, lol. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mB1PuesGGBc

    a female perspective, please

Granted, I have only been in this field for like half a year, but I've never encountered any situation at work where I felt my being female was of any relevance. Well, actually, once we got dispatched to a domestic violence call, I hopped on as a driver/extra help, but the 2 guys said I may need...

    EMT-B Students!!!

God, this practicum is going way too slow...Only 7 calls in 8 days! I'm pretty anxious for my 4-day break next week, hopefully I'll be at least halfway through by then.

    A father at 13

Why would as many as 3 teenage boys take responsibility for this? It seems bizarre, considering you've got grown men running from their pregnant ex-girlfriends. The 15-16 year olds are not going to get much publicity, since it's not that uncommon for one to become a parent at that age, so I...

    EMT-B Students!!!

Man, so I had 4 calls on Friday, the 13th, and not a single one since! That brings me to a total of 5 calls in 5+ days...this practicum is gonna take forever if it doesn't pick up. I have to do at least 25 calls, but they also gotta include 2 peds, and some other fairly specific stuff, so it's...

    Uniforms.

My school required uniforms every day - pants, steel-toes, a dark solid-color t-shirt, and a shirt. Their explanation was that we need to get used to being in a uniform and know where all the pockets and compartments are. I feel it was more about them wanting to track us around the neighborhood...

Be careful what you complain about

Heh, I whined here and then got 2 calls back-to-back, we were still in the hospital cleaning up after the 1st call when the 2nd one came in.
