Ex-fireman pleads not guilty to child porn

Ewww. But I still can't quite decide whether to laugh or be creeped out by the 60 pairs of panties. Who needs *that* many panties??

Polyheme: Ethicists want fake blood study stopped

Well, for heaven's sake, you can't edit messages. So anyhow, the ethical issue is one of informed consent. It's not about using fake vs. real blood or about how well it works -- it's about not giving patients in the hospital the chance to agree to participate in a study. I was posting in...

Polyheme: Ethicists want fake blood study stopped

Did I misunderstand? I thought that was still an informed consent issue -- they weren't giving the patients a chance to decide to participate in the study or not.

Calling all NE US EMTs! Advise me!

Hey, so I'm thinking of moving in about a year. Wondering if anyone has stories about getting their EMT certs in another state. Right now, we haven't narrowed it down a lot, but it's going to be in the NE US, most likely NY or Maine, or possibly those little bitty states in between. Most of...

How many rigs does your service have?

We have two engines, a tanker, two brush trucks and a rescue unit at our volly FD. Another agency does the transporting of patients, unfortunately. They get to have all the fun.

    Introducing Fitness Test

Yeah, it's a strictly volly dept, which I why I'm trying to be very friendly about introducing fitness standards, you know? I think it's important to have them, but also important to make sure it doesn't mean anyone gets kicked off or feels too put upon by it. We have a small weight room...

    Introducing Fitness Test

Hey all, question for yas. To recap, volunteer fire dept. People age 14 to 55, some FFs, some EMTs, most both. We have never had any fitness standards, and we really need to introduce them. This was tried somewhat clumsily about two years ago by a person who has since moved away and so is...

    Blood sugar?

This might a totally dumb assumption, but I wonder if giving everyone a blood sugar is an overreaction to not having done that in the past? We've (I mean, people in my region) run into trouble before assuming a patient is drunk. There have been people who died in jail becuase it was assumed they...

    Case of the Month

It seems like no one uses masks when intubating.... not that I'm recommending that, just noticing. It doesn't happen much in my neck of the woods that we need to intubate at all, but I'm thinking even in training it's usually given the brush off. Something like, "Well, officially you should be...

Snot Nosed, 4 Eyes, Freckle Face, Metal Mouth!

    Temperatures

We carry thermometers, mostly to check for hypo/hyperthermia. We use it as a diagnostic tool to help rule in or out various conditions. Mostly hypothermia, of course, being as this is a pretty cold place much of the year. Of course, tympanic doesn't really work for that, so.... I'm not sure...

    My Latest dilema

Get rid of your bed, and get a big piece of plywood to put over your pool table? You could put your mattress up on the plywood at night. Maybe you could rig a pulley or something to lift the mattress/plywood up during the day and store it near the ceiling. That way it would be out of the way.

    What's wrong with this picture?

Should you treat it as an MVA response if when you get there, there's no one in a car and you're only working off the roadway? That's a real question -- I'm not saying it's the case in the photo there, but it got me thinking.

    Forum Game... "Good Wish/Bad Wish"

Woo hoo! Your fairy godmother brings you a rocket bike! At first it's wonderful, as you fly across the land smiting evil all over the place. Then, one day, someone replaces your regular coffee with decaf, and in your resultant fury you go on a destructive rampage. By nightfall, New York...

    EMS in Canada

I didn't do any EMS in Canada, so I don't know much about it, but I'll fight you to the death over your descriptions of the climate :D And if anyone wants to talk about working way the hell up north, I can blather on about that at length.
