    Quit smoking ideas

No offense taken. Your words are the truth and it is so heartbreaking to watch a loved one die at their own hand. I appologize for my rant though. I am discouraged and torn apart inside.

    Quit smoking ideas

That is exactly what my mom's dr. said. That her veins were rotting. She has had so many complications with her vascular system and yet she kept on smoking, even after she had major surgery on the other leg about 25 years ago. During that surgery, they discovered an anyurism behind her lung. She...

    Quit smoking ideas

My mom's vascular dr. prescribed me Chantix. I am getting it filled very soon! Without insurance, the pills cost as much daily as a pack of cigarettes, the dr. told me. The thing that got me to want to quit smoking is my mom's struggle with peripheral artery disease (PAD). Over the last few...

Need Advice - Doubting following through with an EMT-B Course

I am happy you are give to give EMS a try. I don't think I have become desensitized after 10 years of this but even more fascinated with the way the human body works. I look at things differently now than I used to although there will always be those triggers that get to me. I still have trouble...

    please help! need advice

I really don't have anything else to add to the mix except to back up what others have said. He is new to the EMS gig and someone, somewhere, is going to knock him off his pedestal but fast. He is either going to tame it down or become defensive and get even worse. Your choice now is whether you...

Panic Attack? That isn't supposed to happen.

My hands do the same thing when I get a panic attack. In fact that is one of the first signs with me and then I feel like my throat is closing. I have never been to the dr. about them but my husband, who is a Paramedic, can usually talk me through it with no problem. And yes, it takes a very...

    blue mini light bar

Please don't be offended when I say this but my husband has lights on his car and it is really embarrassing to ride in it with him (I am in EMS too). Total whackerism. In fact, I am trying to find a nice way asking him to take them out without hurting his feelings. I have never seen the point...

    Aspiring EMT student

Find out what text you will be using and buy them now. Just don't get to absorbed with it. Look them over and do some light reading here and there. In your enthusiasm, don't get burnt out. Remember there are other interests and other activities outside of EMS. You don't want to be mentally...

Being an EMT and A Student

I worked in a couple of restaurants bartending and waitressing while I was doing my emt basic classes. I found the hours to be flexible enough for me to do my clinicals and ride time. Recently, I had to quit my paramedic class so I could bring in more money for our family. My husband (who is...

My husband is 33 and he is going through his paramedic class. There is a guy in his class who is 54. Nope, not too late at all! Go for it!

I knew there would be a problem with this...

Can you get enrolled in a weight training program? Perhaps start with a trainer or talk to someone there who can get you on a program to increase your weight lifting abilities. Hopefully you have such a facility available to you that you can go to and get some help.

Another new student needs a scope rec.

Here is an excerpt from an email my instructor sent: From personal experience, I haven't had any real problems with tinnitus effecting my ability to hear sounds through the stethescope. A decent Littmann will run you about 50 - 60 dollars and they have the double lumen tubing which reduces...

    Volunteer Agency Fundraisers

A little spin on the pancake breakfast idea: One year we did blueberry pancakes and increased our donations twice over. People came out in droves for them and they were delicious. I don't know if they still do the blueberry pancakes or not as I am not on the dept anymore but the dept I am on now...
