    EMT-B Students!!!

Our practicum coordinator actually added all of us to her Facebook. I couldn't very well not approve her request, so I did, to be polite, but have since quietly deleted her, since I like to keep my Facebook for real friends and not coworkers/supervisors/subordinates/teachers unless I can...

Ways to stay on top of your skills

I think one of the best ways would be to read scenarios/stories of real-life calls on here and similar forums and then ask yourself what you would do in that situation. If you are not sure, research; if you see someone talk about an unfamiliar way of approaching the situation or treating that...

    EMT-B Students!!!

LOL, tell me about it...couple of my classmates were actually immature enough to trash someone from the class on Facebook via comments on the class picture that everyone in the class (including the person) could see....unbelievable.

Be careful what you complain about

Nice. I, on the contrary, am on practicum and have led my station to set a record - my 1st shift yesterday was the first 12-hour shift in ELEVEN years that they did not get a single call....:rolleyes:lol. Then the same thing happened during the day shift today!

    How much do you know?

We're still 15, but it seems the #s are a bit different for eyes and verbal. Eyes are: 4 - spontaneous 3 - to voice 2- to pain 1 - none Verbal is: 5: AxO 4: confused 3: inappropriate words 2: incomprehensible sounds 1: none

    LOL, classic.

    How much do you know?

Weird, American GCS is different, it seems. Apparently, opening your eyes to voice is 4 (it's 3 here), and being confused is 3 (4 here). Was bored enough to do the whole thing and got 89%. Not bad. Got nailed on every single activated charcoal question, lol.:rolleyes:Well, I can't give it...

    How much do you know?

Hm, some stuff is a bit different from ours, e.g. epi dose for anaphylaxis, and L in our SAMPLE stands for both LOI and LBM. Sounds like it's a paramedic test, because some meds covered are not even in my scope. Got 92% on 100 questions. "A sphygmomanometer should be applied to: the anus"...

Ever forget to put on your gloves?

I've never forgotten gloves, but I always forget goggles with medical pts (unless I have to start an IV or do a BGL on them or something). Even after a friend told me that he had a stroke pt randomly projectile-vomit in his face and thanking god he had worn his goggles.

    Clinicals

Our EMT/PCP hospital is only about 30-40 hours (4 days) and ambulance is minimum 25 calls, plus there are specific competencies that need to be signed off, so I'd say something like 35 calls would be about average (although I've heard of people doing 60+ and then failing ).

    EMT-B vs. EMT-A

Really? I haven't looked too much into it, but I remember reading on this forum that EMT-Bs can't even do BGL testing, at least in some states...

    EMT-B Students!!!

Ha, nice! We had one person removed from the class right around finals time, but that was long overdue, it was way worse than being late 3x.

    EMT-B vs. EMT-A

Would be nice, I find that most people don't even know what an EMT is, and I don't want to misrepresent myself by saying I'm a paramedic (like one of my classmates who said he was "going to medical school"), so it always comes down to something like, "Well, I work for the...

    The Golden Hour

Well, depends on specialty and whether you consider gross or take-home after malpractice (which also varies) and taxes....of course I was exaggerating with 2 mil.:P

Reccomendations for coursework or study work?

I had taken quite a bit of bio and chem before my EMT-I course, and it saved me hours upon hours of homework. While my classmates studied for 8-10 hours a day, I studied an average of an hour a day, which allowed me to work FT and not worry about my success in the class. A&P was the single most...
