    EMS Unions in So cal

Alright people. I like the overall idea here, but it's got to be done NICELY, ok? Otherwise the dancing lock will be the last post, and folks may get vacations. So play nice, and don't make me remove posts again, OK? Thanks.

    EMS Unions in So cal

Then who's job is it? How much effort would it take you to get the correct demographics, and speak up and say "hey, this run doesn't appear to need Medicare eligibility requirements?" If someone else is doing that, they need to be paid too. And remember, I just said that the average EMS...

    EMS Unions in So cal

Here's the root of the issue that you seem to be missing: For EMS providers to get paid more, that money needs to come from somewhere. Unions don't BRING money, they actually take it out of your pocket. They just try to get the employers to give you more money, so you don't notice the union...

Y The whole state isn't that bad... There is a reason they call it "lower slower DE"

Dunno. I ask the same question, except they are always <10 miles for me, thus far.

EMS Question Regarding Incident In Emergency Room

First... You do know that a plastic surgeon IS a physician, right? Sutures leave scars. I've never been convinced that a plastic surgeon is going to do a significantly better job on a simple laceration repair than a "regular" residency-trained EM physician. Additionally, unless it's a tertiary...

    the 100% directionless thread

I had to open up the nitro and ASA in my drug bag for a chest pain call. They were both in the bag when I started 3.5 months ago. So yes, my first chest pain in 3+ months. I love this job. It's different.

I was thinking tonight I've got 37 days until I head home. This makes me sad. Where'd the time go?

Ok... I retract my statement. Not sure where I heard/saw that, but I can't find proof.

    Retesting "Oral B" NREMT-P in a Month

Alright... Here's my take on NR-P testing (they no longer certify folks as NREMT-P, but folks have another couple of years to transition). I don't know how many scenarios they have, but from what I've seen and heard, it's a crapshoot. Sometimes they are very complicated, sometimes they are...

    Student Clinical Tracking Software

I say this every time... I did medic school twice. Once entirely on paper, and once with much of the clinical info in FISDAP. Is FISDAP perfect? No. Is it better than paper? Hell yes. For both the students and the admin.

Rural/Metro to stop most Indiana EMS service

Yup. They declared bankruptcy, and as I understand it, Falck is running the show. Falck has apparently allowed other R/M operations to fail, to then swoop in, renegotiate facility contracts, and be rid of labor unions and the hugest paid employees. Legal? Yes. Ethical? Well...you be the judge.

    Student Clinical Tracking Software

Why not approach FISDAP and see if they might be willing to make an app? Perhaps they don't know the market is there. I'm not sure there's a better program out there right now. FISDAP's site is relatively mobile-friendly, you just need a data connection for documentation.

Paramedics sued for not entering house with o2

No. I've responded to plenty of calls and not brought in the whole kit. I've also been burned a couple of times by not being as prepared as I should have been. My comment regarding "mediocre providers" is that these providers apparently failed to realize just how sick this person was...

Paramedics sued for not entering house with o2

Hey... I want to bash SoCal too... But that's not the topic of this post. So I'll use my admin privileges to get the last word, and that's simply this... Pay alone does not make a good EMS system. In fact, if the only reason you're in this industry is the paycheck, please retire. Or at least...

    AMR's DRT

DRT can be fun, but you've got to be able/willing to be flexible and make do with very little in the way of creature comforts. Someone mentioned partying during Katrina. I was in Louisiana for about 3 weeks with DRT... If there was partying, I didn't know about it.

    Police Based Paramedics

The NPS has a VERY interesting EMS system. Their larger parks provide EMS as a function of "Visitor and Resource Protection" along with the Law Enforcement Rangers. Many times, this means most of the LE Rangers are at least EMT's. Depending on the park, non-LE staff also work on the ambulances...

    Selling EMS memberships?

In PA, several of the services I work for do have membership programs. They usually sell them by direct mail to all residences within their territory. Some of the agencies also have mutual aid agreements, where a mutual aid ambulance agrees to honor the local membership if they are covering in...

How long is your commute to work?

Until the end of September? It's about 100 feet. I walk out my door, walk though my back yard, and get to my ambulance. When I get back to PA, it'll be back to 30+ mile drives to work at my jobs.
