    LA County Enough is enough!!

I think they only ship packages up to 70 lbs. Alas.

    LA County Enough is enough!!

If you started talking about 150 credit hours, instead of 150 clock hours, the calculus would be very different.

    High school senior (NJ)

You can take and pass the EMT class at 16, and become state certified as a 'Provisional EMT'. Which means that you have the training and certification as an EMT, can act as an EMT, but cannot make up the minimum staffing on a truck. Many volunteer agencies have cadet programs. You can run...

    Please Help Support NJ EMS!!!

I'm sorry to say it, but you're probably right. I don't know why, I wonder if the people who were in the EMS study commission ever came south of 195 to see the rest of the state when they say, basically, that Paramedics are always available in a short time frame and hospitals are so very close...

    Online paramedic program?

I would have to agree with JP that at least as far as TEEX is concerned, the numbers are alarming. If I saw a law school with a 52% first-time bar passage rate, I wouldn't go there. (Indeed, in doing some research, I was alarmed to find out that several law schools do have California Bar Exam...

    EMS Conferences

I said it costs $10 to get into the exhibit hall at EMS Today. We usually just go down for a day and do that. Though you can usually score a free pass if you ask one of your vendors. You do score free stuff. More pens and fridge magnets than you could use in a lifetime. :)

The governor conditionally vetoed the bill, incidentally.

    Obtaining BGL

Don't they call those people EMT-Intermediates? ;) BGL is outside of the EMT-B scope of practice in NJ at the moment. The theory is apparently that it wouldn't effect treatment decisions.

    To Run Hot or Not?

Its an invitation for a lawsuit. Though, then again, any time you turn on your lights, you should realize that you're taking on a lot of responsibility should things go wrong. If they need that rapid a turn-around from units going so far away, maybe they need to station an extra transport...

    Medical Director Ride-Alongs

Depends how proactive your medical director is. Is he actually involved in QA/QI of your patient care, does he drive the protocols, or is he just the guy who signs the papers so that you can get your sterile water and AED pads ordered. If he cares enough to go out and see what his crews are...

    Best Trauma Shears?

The trade show at EMS Today is only like... $10 or something? I'm just saying, if you're going to the conference anyway, the admission fee is a sunk cost. :)

    Best Trauma Shears?

I don't have any particular attachment to my trauma shears. If they get disgusting (my last pair became covered in rapidly cooling hot liquid asphalt on a call), I throw them out and get a new pair from the bushel full of free ones that we have at the squad, dropped off by a drug rep years ago...

So I want to get a gun

In order to purchase a handgun in New Jersey, you require two things. One is a Firearms Purchaser ID card. This permits you to buy as many long guns as you like, as well as handgun ammunition. In addition, you must obtain a permit to purchase a handgun. The two can be applied for at the same...

    levels of training

The only levels the State certifies right now are EMT and Paramedic. New Jersey has no certification for First Responders. But there are a number of First Responder courses, and I think if the new EMS act passes, we will have EMR>EMT>Paramedic. First Responder is basically the same as...

    Paramedic to LPN license

For years, there were diploma nursing programs. Those programs were eventually deemed inadequate. Now, associate degree programs are suffering the same problem. More and more frequently, the entry-level credential for nursing is a bachelor's degree. We've seen the same trend throughout...

    Stryker Powerload

The apparatus for lifting the stretcher is hard-wired into the ambulance, and has a backup battery, so it won't go dead like stretcher batteries will. And it induction charges the stretcher battery, so that won't be as much of a problem anymore, either. However... They are very expensive. I...

    Paramedic to LPN license

Well, here's a thread raised from the dead for no good reason... Anyway, I wouldn't be so quick to say that a paramedic is working "basically as a nurse", and base that comparison on skills. It's more a question of education. A BSN-prepared nurse has a significant amount more training, and a...

    Bates Composite Toe-Thoughts?

The composite toe is much lighter than steel, and doesn't freeze your toes in the winter. And seriously, if you work on an ambulance, it's only a matter of time before you'll be grateful for the safety toe footwear.

what is a ICS 100 course

Or any incident, really. And it's required for personnel of all first responder agencies, if the agency is to be NIMS compliant. Since being NIMS compliant is a requirement for Federal money of various types, you need to get the ICS certs. Anyway, to the OP, go to the link, listen to the...

    Please Help Support NJ EMS!!!

You'll notice that the many of the comments in favor are from MONOC, which is a hospital corporation that provides ALS services through a wide swath of the state. They're something of the evil empire of NJ EMS, since we don't have AMR or Rural Metro or any of those really big providers here...
