    Min of 2 on Ambulance

Found it. I first went to the California EMS Authority website. I realized CHP has some ambulance regulations. After some googling, I found this website. It must be legit since even the CHP website links to it. It is part of the California code of regulations...

If I am 22 and never had a gf, is working EMS making it more difficult?

But even then, shouldn't those be posted in the ALS/BLS sub-forums? That is why they are there. I try not to be so rigid and allow myself to color outside the lines but it is hard sometimes.

    Urgent Care Paramedic

I did address that but I did not know the outcome of the legislation that would allow paramedics to work as an ALS provider in a rural hospital.

    Urgent Care Paramedic

California law doesn't allow a paramedic to work as an ALS provider outside of a pre-hospital environment. A few years ago, there was a bill that would allow a paramedic to work in a small rural hospital setting. I don't know if that was passed. The California Nurses Association fights hard...

EMS systems similar to Kern County

A memo had to be put out after the transition to CAL FIRE stating for personnel not to use the term "CAL FIRE Command or TAC ##" over the radio to local government personnel because 1. They couldn't find CAL FIRE TAC ## on their radio and caused confusion on the fire ground. 2. CDFFP is still...

    24/48 hour shift

I am not sure why this wasn't posted in the post above. I even edited it and this text showed up but I am not seeing it posted in my last answer. I am not sure why they don't do that. It may be partly do to a lack of space at stations that need it. They did add squad 130 to help pick up the...

    24/48 hour shift

Fort Lauderdale Fire station #2 is the busiest station in the country with over 33,000 calls last year among 8 units out of that station. LAFD FS9 was second with 27,000 calls and 6 units. LACoFD FS33 was third with 26,000 call and 3 units. I am not sure why they don't do that. It may be...

    tattoos in EMS

I wonder if there is a way to archive (read only) older threads so we don't have this problem. It seems like a common problem.

Why did you choose to become an EMT/Paramedic ?

Yes. Who can resist the cool shirts that state: Paramedics do it in the rear......of the ambulance. Paramedics save lives. EMTs save paramedics I fight what you fear.

    FD Emplyment Requirments

This will depend on the type of system a fire department runs as there are several different setups depending on the fire department. Most fire departments that run ambulances use firefighter/paramedics (or FF/EMTs) and they are civil service employees. You have to be a firefighter in order work...

Determining which type of EMT cert to get

The problem I see with upgrading to Advanced EMT is that because A-EMTs are Limited ALS providers, they require you to be employed by a LALS/ALS provider. You just can't take a course in Advanced EMT and start carrying your meds and procedure supplies around the shopping mall in case you come...

When people ask "what's the worst thing you've seen?"

I have never really thought of answer like this and I think it works. In my mind (and the mind of the asker), they are thinking of trauma. If I really wanted to answer, this might be an option. I am not often asked this question but I usually just say "use your imagination."

New Paramedic, Feeling like this isn't for me?

I think the above is causing your lack of confidence. 2 years as an EMT doing IFTs. You have not worked on a 911 ALS ambulance so you lack that experience. You have not seen another paramedic give a medication in the field in an emergency situation and all of the other small little things you...
