    EpiPen and diabetes

The Twin-Ject is the brand that you're thinking of with two doses. I know the second dose is not an auto-injector, I forget if the first is or not. The Epi-Pen is a different brand and only provides one dose. It is a true auto-injector.

    Scuba Diving?

I have my open water... Like others maybe I'll find some money, take a vacation, and actually use it soon!

    EpiPen and diabetes

Likely a Glucagon injector. I've seen these a fair number of times.

    Seizures

Interesting. I once asked a doc about this and they told me to give valium to stop the seizure, and then follow up with mag... Does anyone have protocols or reference material that leans one way or the other?

    SpO2 waveform

No good proven reason to "read" the SpO2 waveform, as far as I know. The only reason I look at the waveform is to verify that the signal is good. Example: SpO2 is reading only 85% - I would look at the waveform and make sure it is consistent. There's a few studies out there talking about...

    What would it take...

So how do we increase the reimbursement values?

    What would it take...

Hadn't thought about it this way before; but you make an excellent point.

    Public Safety Alliance?

PSA=Licensing of Frequencies, Not Interoperability While I agree with furthering interoperable communications on a wide-spread level, the truth is that the PSA is only about licensing and which frequencies are available for first responders. Yes, it would put us all in the same "block" of...

    Intubating without Ventilatory Assistance

Yeah, she was down for approximately 25-30 minutes without any improvement before our medic intubated. Per family, she was down for an unknown amount of time before they arrived (possibly hours).

    Intubating without Ventilatory Assistance

Absolutely agreed. Unfortunately the initial cost is prohibitive to us currently, and administrators don't see it as a need because our medical control authority doesn't require it. True; point well taken. Unfortunately we don't have RSI. I suppose this was a sort of medication-assisted...

Adult Bag Valve Mask use on child?

Yes! The thing is two hands available to hold the seal. With a bag, one hand is on the bag and not on the mask where it needs to be. The next time you do CPR have an extra set of hands helping with mask seal and you'll notice a huge difference even in just an adult. That being said, I think...

Adult Bag Valve Mask use on child?

Your guards are not trained in emergency oxygen administration? That's pretty unusual, around here at least. If I were lifeguarding, I'd only carry the adult size pocket mask. I'd also advocate for the jump kit or whatever backup resource we have to contain BVMs of all sizes. Stocking...

    Intubating without Ventilatory Assistance

For reference, the crew did not have a ventilator of any sort, nor waveform EtCO2 available to them.

    Dental Trauma

Does anyone here have a dental emergency protocol? At least how to transport avulsed teeth? And, maybe specifically wilderness responders, are you allowed or trained to do temporary fillings with zinc oxide? Anyone carry oil of clove?

How liberal are you with antiemetics?

I wanted to and forgot to mention the food poisoning thing earlier... I similarly to Lucid have been sick before - in my case with a long bout of salmonella poisoning traced to a local restaurant. I'm fairly sure that vomiting didn't help me kick it. I would guess that the bacteria involved...

    Static Cardiology Study Tips

I test students at this station a lot. To me, saying "consider" is fine, but definitely not required. I would support just saying one way to do it - amiodarone or lidocaine are fine either way for instance. Giving me multiple answers is setting yourself up for wasted time and getting confused...

    Intubating without Ventilatory Assistance

A coworker of mine responded to a young female in status epilepticus. Seizures continued for 20+ minutes without the patient arousing at all prior to their arrival. Upon arrival the patient's GCS was 3 and some vomit was suctioned from the oropharynx. Vital signs were otherwise non-specific...
