EMT-B's that pass the test amaze me..

Still doesn't change the fact that there are some ignorant people coming out of EMT-B classes. Not referring to everybody, just those who have just enough sense to barely make it in the world. EMS is a world where peoples lives are at stake. This is not learning the register at Taco Bell or...

EMT-B's that pass the test amaze me..

WRONG!! I can give Glucagon IM for hypoglycemia (standing orders)... My local protocols allow it,along with 12 leads, King airway, Epipen ( not the patients, standing orders), among other things. Good try though!!! And YES InstaGlucose come in a tube.. FROM OUR PROTOCOLS Notes: [EMT] Only EMTs...

EMT-B's that pass the test amaze me..

First of all, I am an EMT-B... I continue to be amazed at the quality of people who pass the EMT-B exam. This is not a reference about every EMT-B because I know there are good ones too. I thought the test was easy but over the last few weeks I have run calls with some people that should never...

    Losing weight without a gym

I eat more carbs than I used to. I like to hike and fortunately I live 2 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Skyline Drive. Last night I had a craving for banana soft serve ice cream so I ate some but I just don't do it everyday.

    Losing weight without a gym

If you eat a low card diet you will lose about 1/2 pound a day. Low carb doesn't mean you have to eat fatty foods like the old Atkins diet used to push. Daily I eat: Breakfast- usually an omlette with GP,Onions,Bacon Lunch- Some type of green salad with grilled chicken(a big one,salad...

    Learning pharmacology????

I was just accepted into our local EMT-I program after taking the entrance exam a couple of weeks ago;I am bridging from B to I. I was one of 22 picked out of 70 some test-takers. My class starts on August 1 and I thought it might be a good idea to learn some of the drugs beforehand. Did you...

    Women in EMS

This has nothing to do with EMS, but demonstrates stereotypes. I am 6'5 and all of my life I have heard "boy you're tall, do you, or did you, play basketball". My son is 6'9", and he will hear it to. I told him to respond with "do you play miniature golf"?

    EMT-B to EMT-I???

Thanks to everyone for your responses but I would like to get my thread back on track. My original question went something like this: How do you think is the best way to prepare for the EMT-I class? Should I really study the EMT-B to get better at basic skills, or would it be better to read...

    EMT-B to EMT-I???

I am told that there is only 1 procedure that a paramedic can do that a EMT-I can"t do in our region and that is an emergency cric.

    EMT-B to EMT-I???

Not in my future. I am a volunteer and have no intention of making EMS a career. I have no time to attend college, again, because of family and a successful insurance agency. I want the knowledge, I want to be more helpful on calls, and I want to prove to myself that I am getting better and...

    EMT-B to EMT-I???

I begin the B to I class in August. I purchased the Mosby 1999 textbook to begin preparation for the class. I am not even remotely worried about passing the entrance exam but I am wondering if it would be beneficial for me to re-study my EMT-B materials and improve on my B skills, or do you...

    Advice needed. bad first day.

I believe you are wrong. I have found that it is the so-called tough guys that have the issues. Just be honest when you're hurting, figure out a way to best deal with it, and go save another life. I know it's tough to imagine but time will take away the sting although it may not completely...

    New EMT

I too am an EMT-B in Virginia. I am getting ready to bridge from B to I in beginning in August. The post regarding always learning something is 100% accurate. Don't just lay your EMT book down and think to yourself, "now I'm an EMT, so I don't have to study as much". If you want to be like...

    medics with attitudes

You do that by running with them and gaining their trust that you can perform the tasks that they ask of you, like an expert BLS provider. It feels really good when the medics say that they like running with you because they trust you and your skills.
