    Halloween 2013

I worked 12 hours during the day - had one lady dying to meet us, but otherwise uneventful. I was on the college QRV that evening. Dealt with some minor stupidity (I took 4 antibiotics and not 3. Am I going to die?) and an unfounded call. No drunks! And as my Twitter friend MotorCop said...

    the 100% directionless thread

My VFD and AMR operation have strict facial hair policies for the sake of respiratory protection, so the only facial hair that's acceptable is a mustache. I thought about doing "Movember"... But I look kinda creepy with just a mustache (not even mirror universe creepy, more like "free candy"...

Why the hate on dialysis runs?

It's a combination of factors. One is that many of the runs are on shaky medical necessity to begin with. Often the patients are more "demanding" than the average patient. A big part of this is that they are more comfortable with the setting, so they ask for it things that the average patient...

    Princess Cruises?

Dunno. I had the opportunity to play 20 questions with a Princess Cruises Medic (As opposed to a Princess Medic - we all know them!) at EMS Expo. Seems like this thread is pretty accurate. Big ships are often 2 docs, 3 RN's, and 2 medics. Medics do 24 on / 24 off on primary call. When "off"...

Research position - Hartford, CT (CPR)

https://jobs.hr.upenn.edu/applicants/jsp/shared/position/JobDetails.jsp?time=1380653905213 Don't know the whole backstory. Assuming its grant-based. If it was local, I'd apply

    "Candy-flipping"

I'm going to disagree. Not all drug overdoses are the same, and only some result in ED. http://www.jems.com/article/patient-care/excited-delirium-strikes-witho

    "Candy-flipping"

The scenario sounds like classic excited delirium. The whole "getting naked" is usually due to hyperthermia, and that's been thought to be a contributing factor to the delirium, because they are cooking their brain. Sedation and temperature control is the current preferred method of treatment.

    pcr naratives

Hey EMT B - you're asking how to condense your narrative. Simple answer - don't repeat stuff. Your form already establishes what unit you're on, and often PMH/Meds/Allergies are already included too. No need to repeat them. My "transport" narrative is often very short: EMS is taking pt to____...

    Oxygen D tank refilling

Miscusi, Here's what I don't get. Why spend money to buy something to put in your closet, "just in case". Current research is showing that oxygen isn't harmless, and that overuse can be more dangerous than not using it. If you went to be prepared for "just in case" - spend this money to...

Feeling discouraged, freakish. Am I cut out for EMS?

AMS... Sounds like you're having a rough time in clinicals. Let me tell you something... It's not a big secret, but I don't harp on it either (if you look back at some of my old posts, you'll find this story, too). I went all the way through medic school once..... And failed. My school at the...

    DC Hiring single role medics

I mean, DC is a cool town... But I'm pretty sure I don't want to be a single-role medic for DC FEMS.

    Narc security question

The rules I've always been told for Class II drugs are either double locked or locked and on your person. And the DEA considers a tamper seal as a lock.

    Muslim Girl

Alright folks.. Some of what folks are saying is steering close to "personal attacks" I've seen women in EMS wearing headscarves before, always with long sleeves too. If that's your "thing"... Go for it. My only issue is "can you do the job" - patient care, lifting, ext - as long as you've...

    Ambulance Vs private vehicle

I had a similar scenario, except mine was a motorcyclist that crashed in front of me, and required me to go off-roading (with minimal success). No actual contact between us, but the findings was that he was at fault. My partner and I both initially treated the rider. My partner ended up with...
