IO vs IV for cardiac arrest: recently published research

Lol I realize that I was referring to an extremity. I'm pretty sure I even said that in my post.

IO vs IV for cardiac arrest: recently published research

Can you or someone please elaborate a little more on the liver pressure thing? Why would this be more beneficial than a tornoquet on the extremity? It's late at night and this caught my eye. It's a simple anatomy answer but my question is really more why is it going to produce better results...

    help

Failing three times doesn't mean that someone can't be capable of being and EMT. It only shows a lack somewhere of fundamental knowledge needed to pass the test. OP, take the refresher and study your butt off for a month or so after the refresher. Focus on the areas you failed. Invest in...

    When is enough, enough?

The company I work for doesn't have 24 hour BLS shifts for that exact reason. They do 12's so you can run all shift. Our 24 hour shifts are reserved for ALS only.

    Falling O2 sats.....on CPAP?

I've taken care of COPD patients whose normal spo2 is in the mid to high 80's. I don' think it' ever safe to assume an exact number when it comes to someone still being conscious or not with anything in medicine. Some people will surprise you. I think the best answer to your question is he would...

    So confused...

So it' not technically getting "re-certified". You used your first three attempts, and now you have to take a remedial training class of 24 hours of basically CME. First thing I would do is contact the company that you went through class with, and ask if they offer the remedial training. If not...

    Shortness of breath

Well the 12 lead picture explains why he isn't perfusing very well. Seems like he was relatively haemodynamically stable when you were assesing him. Time to go down that algorithm. I'm curious how this ended up. I would predict that you either arrived at the hospital before doing any...

    Falling O2 sats.....on CPAP?

There has been some amazing topics in here to read through. I do want to add that although albuterol doesn't necessarily have any contrainications- it is synergistic with other sympathomimetics. For this case that wouldn't be a big deal. But worth understanding.

    King Vision aBlade system?

Thanks for the video VentMonkey this was actually pretty informative. We use kings in the city but not every time. I've found that old school medics tend to carry a pride concept when it comes to DL and feel obsolete if they have to have any type of aid. In the end it's about the patient and...

The Myth of Rural EMS = long transports

Yeah I agree for the most part. Where im at there are parts of the state that have hour and a half ground transports to the nearest hospital.

    Signs and Symptoms

This literally made me cringe. Differential diagnosis for advanced level prehospital providers is a major part of our job. To sit and stick with the mindset that we are only a transportation service and shouldn't be using our knowledge to rule in or out possible diagnosis for critical patients...

    Signs and Symptoms

Sure his vital signs would say he's compensating for something but he's unconscious So tell us what your plan is. How are you going to further investigate the reasons why with the information you've got?

    Signs and Symptoms

This person hasn't been active in like 6 years so I doubt you will get a reply. I would focus on understanding the material. Not just reading through a few paragraphs and hoping you can recall it when the test comes. Take practice tests. Invest the money into testing materials like JBL or...

    Transporting of narcs

Maybe something you could ask administration about? If it' kind of a big thing between your co-workers right now I'm sure management has an answer!

    Transporting of narcs

Your narcs are locked up and tagged so I doubt it would be a huge deal for you to drive the rig to pick up your partner. Obviously administration is limited to BLS for you, but I don' think transport is a huge deal. I don't know the exact law and it probably changes with location, but I...

Where do you keep your stethoscope?

Where I'm at we can wear any EMS pants as long as they are a certain color. I chose some with a few side pockets. That's where I keep mine. It stays out of the way when I don't need it and it readily accessible when I do.

    Mosby vs Brady

Hmm I don't know what Nancy Caroline book you're reading for paramedic but there is much, much more depth in the one we use. Check out Emergency Care in the Streets 7th edition.

    Mosby vs Brady

To short? how long do you want it to be? My paramedic books is 2000 pages. Yeah there is some fluff pages but still the book is ridiculously big.

    Mosby vs Brady

Really? Nancy caroline is a great in my opinion. Used Brady for advanced and currently using Nancy caroline for my paramedic. I have liked it much better.
