    what would you do.....

I would also say something to the teacher. It's possible that the teacher took a quiz from the internet but it's also possible a student put it on there. Either way, I would make them aware of it. I knew someone that rarely read the chapters during EMT class because they "didn't have time"...

    Sternal rub... who's doing it?

The EMS professional that actually let's the hand fall on PT shouldn't be in EMS.

First Time E.M.T. (When can he ride?)

Our policies are different. Once a member is approved by our BOC and covered under the insurance they can run with the squad, however they must be currently in a program to become EMT for the squad. They are able to do things when directed by the EMT or Paramedic in charge, as EMT Student. As...

Difference between disaster and MCI and MVI?

MCI for us is defined as anything more than our ambulance [crew] can handle. MVI is not a term I have seen used in our area but the best of my understanding that would be a situation where the numbers of victims necessitates county or state resources.

What do you do with your ring(s)?

Ladies, do you wear your engagement ring while working/on call? What about wedding rings, do you wear them or take them off?

    Sternal rub... who's doing it?

We don't do smelling salts. We do sternum rub for painful stimulus or hand drop test if we think patient may be faking. For babies we flick bottom of feet.

    Code 3

Code 3 in our county means third call for said EMS service. Our priorities go from Alpha (asinine) to Delta (don't get in my way), lol. I've seen lights and sirens go on at EMT discretion for nothing an times when Paramedics probably should have run lights and siren bit for whatever reason...

Do you refer to non-Paramedics as "Medics"?

    I asked google.

Do you refer to non-Paramedics as "Medics"?

I always thought that medic was a shortened form of Paramedic but I've had interactions recently with someone that is currently EMR level, going to school to become EMT, calling herself a medic and referring to basically anyone in EMS as a medic. I was wondering what the general consensus was...

Do you refer to non-Paramedics as "Medics"?

Simple question, do you refer to those in EMS that are not certified at the Paramedic level (EMTs, EMRs, etc.) as "medics" or do you use it more widely to refer to others in EMS, like EMTs?

Do you live where you work?

I live about two blocks away from the FD I volunteer for. I could run there faster than some people in the town could drive if I had to. If I take the job at the race track over the summer I will commute about 20 minutes. If I am able to volunteer/work at the fair this summer, I want to do that...

    Help..Nursing vs EMT

It wasn't at the high school. It's done through our county. As far as nursing vs. EMT as career, don't forget to consider your ROI. Basically, how long it will take you to "make back" the money you invested going to school to become one of those things. To become an EMT there was no cost to us...

    Help..Nursing vs EMT

My daughter is 17 and plans to go into nursing. At 16 she went to school through our county to become EMR. She is currently in her senior year and going to class to become an EMT. She heard pros and cons of "wasting time" becoming an EMT with the intention of going into nursing. She decided it...

Collar, or no collar? Gsw to the head.

You raise a lot of good question and I have contacted the head of the EMS bureau to help me understand. I know my state is *** backwards and behind in the times. Changes to protocols are coming slowly, but they are coming. The only answer I have for that is "protocols", sorry. Three questions...
