    Los Angeles Minimum wage $15hr

Doesn't go into affect until 2020. Plenty of time to be repealed.

SoCal companies to pay $11.5 million to settle federal kickback suits

So disappointing with care. I remember during orientation How'd they boast about not doing any such business practices. Nice to know you can't trust any company nowadays. Two big enthusiastic thumbs way down for you care.

    Aurora FD for the win

This isn't just a fire or ems thing. This is a culture thing. Every job you go to will have these issues. Just so happens ours can be recorded and public record. These were for sure over the line for a supervisor. No doubt about it. In today's work place is no longer what you meant to say...

Wondering if this job is really for me

There's nothing wrong with not getting in the field and wanting to stay in dispatch. Dispatchers can do a tremendous amount of good too. So don't discount that as a career. A good emd instructing a layperson to do cpr instead of waiting for us can do a tremendous amount of good.

    Running a code

And to make it a lot easier, do an initial assessment or reassessment on the person everytime, then get to work delegating and running the show. If you have multiple medics delegate everything away. Have someone scribe, someone on meds, someone on airway, and compressions. The calmer you can...

    Running a code

One thing I like to do when family is making the scene difficult is to have a member of the team pull them aside and get the story and demographic info for your pcr. For me they were the most intimidating call to imagine and go through in my head, but if you can get past the nerves you'll do...

How much do firefighter medics actually do on the scene

At my department it's whomever is on scene first is in charge and everyone assists. Even with the private company that we run with. It's their show if on scene first and vice versa. And medics might not actually be the ones doing many hands on skills. We are lucky enough to have five on scene in...

    Gupta thumping people

http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/01/health/nepal-gupta-woman-cardiac-arrest/index.html I think the real issue is how many times he checked the pulse before doing anything. Minimum 5 seconds, max of 10 bro. Duh.

Recommendations for a book on aviation?

Start with Stick and Rudder. It's a classic. I liked Greatest Stories Told. I'll try to find which one it is, but a Spirit of St. Louis one was my favorite.

    Single Role FD Medics

    6. And for the 12 hour thing you were taking about. That was for a surge unit during ski season in Wrightwood. You do get forced to work overtime shifts but so is everyone in the department.

    Single Role FD Medics

Before everyone berates the San Bernardino County AO program, let's get things straight. I was there for a few months prior to other employment. 1. You get treated the same way you treat others and for how hard of a worker you are. No one gets treated unfairly. Of course every once and awhile...

Why do medics with the FD make more?

All this bickering about wage discrepancy is so silly in my mind. Why shouldn't fire medics make more? Their job description alone says they do two jobs, so yeah.... I know this isn't the case and there's evidence for both sides, but my antedoctal so cal evidence is that private ambulance...

    LA County Fire.....

And despite what all the emts are all the private companies say, there's no protocol, outside 516 or whatever the trauma protocol is, with with a specific blood pressure that gets mandatory ALS transport. It's only if they're showing signs of shock. LEARN THE PROTOCOLS FOR YOURSELF INSTEAD OF...

    LA County Fire.....

This thought process by private ambulance emts is prevalent and perpetuates rumors. Learn your protocols. I used to do the same too, thinking if I heard the word chest pain then it was automatically Omg the big one. When in fact it could be a multitude of non cardiac bls type transports. Also...

Medics upset over Long Beach pilot deployment plan

I was just talking about what an adequate southern California salary is. I know I could move anywhere else in the country and make more, but I kind of like seeing my family. I'm very much a work to live type person and not a work to live.

Medics upset over Long Beach pilot deployment plan

While I was at a major So Cal provider I was only making 20k a year if I didn't work overtime.

Medics upset over Long Beach pilot deployment plan

They are paramedics, right? So is 70k a year a fair salary for a paramedic that also has to fight the occasional fire? Now I totally agree with the issue that an inadequate amount of a fire/medic's training is spent on ems. That's for sure something that has to change. Maybe we can have the...

Medics upset over Long Beach pilot deployment plan

Why pay fire that when you can pay an emt 10 an hour or a medic 13 an hour! I know rehashing the fire ems vs private ems will go no where, but let's pose a question. What's an adequate salary for a paramedic? 30k a year? 50? What?

Medics upset over Long Beach pilot deployment plan

Patients in the ladder buckets. Duh... No, for long beach if they don't have a RA available, then they dispatch the BLS unit along with the engine/truck and that medic now turns that unit into an ALS rig.

Medics upset over Long Beach pilot deployment plan

I know it's a money thing. I'm saying what's the point of having medics on assessment engines and trucks when they can't transport. If the patient is ALS then they call a dual medic unit. This now ties up two resources. If we can get to just one medic for transports then we add more als...
