Last call of the day is....

My last call of the weekend last weekend was a diabetic who's blood sugar was 20. Almost identical to the one I posted about in a different thread, but this time he was A/Ox4 and not combative. Refused IV for D50, did agree to Oral glucose and a peanut butter sandwich. His blood sugar was 38...

Survived my first shift as a cleared Paramedic...

I am happy to report that I had a successful shift as a cleared Paramedic. After working 72 hours, I am enjoying a nice relaxing day off. Among my some 20 calls, I had a lot of transfers, and surprisingly a lot of psych patients. One person I transported was talking to imaginary people...

Just took the NREMT Exam and it cut me off at 125

    Well? Did you pass?

Just took the NREMT Exam and it cut me off at 125

I took 120 questions on the Paramedic exam and passed, after taking 80 the first time and failing. Had my results that afternoon. I don't necessarily know if I believe the whole "when in doubt, c it out" thing. To me, doing that seems like it would be setting you up for failure.

Congratulations!!! When I took EMT, I had the same issue. 70 questions...what? I couldn't possibly pass that quickly. BUT, I did. I'm sure you'll be a fine EMT.

    The Official EMTLIFE Introduction Thread

I totally didn't do this on my arrival here. Hola, senors and senoritas! I'm Jeff. I'm 29 (approaching 30 a little more quickly than I would like), and I graduated from Paramedic school in May. Took the NR and passed it a couple weeks ago, and start on my own truck this Friday (eek). Prior...

What does your significant other do?

My SO is a cake decorator. Hates the hours, hates talking about it, loves the money.

    Failed The NREMT Again

You said it much better than I could.

    Failed The NREMT Again

Okay. Poor wording perhaps. What I meant by that was, they can only help you with a solid base knowledge. Can they help fill in the knowledge holes? Sure. But after a time, you start to memorize the questions. The JB Learning test prep can only change so much. Same with medic tests...

    "Best" things heard in dispatch

A few of my favorites from over the years: Fire Dispatch: <insert Department here> need you to respond...uhhhhh...potential fire...uhhhh...*looks at screen for address, which is there*...uhhhhh....*looks at screen again for address*...uhhhhh *gives wrong address, corrects himself* Responding...

Ugh. I'm so used to working all the time, I have no idea what to do with myself when I'm not.

    Failed The NREMT Again

I was frustrated after I failed my first attempt at the NREMT Paramedic exam. The 15 days up until the second attempt, I studied my tail end off. I didn't use the prep sites, because I did reasonably well on them, and still managed to fail. I DID, however, go back and brushed up on a little...

Diabetic Emergency...and a subsequent complaint. Your opinions, please?

We've been dealing with the state on this one, because of the complaint. Everybody involved told the story the exact same way--except for the family. Turns out, he DID eat something shortly thereafter, and was fine. I appreciate the responses. The state guy says he doesn't see where we did...

We tried that too. He said he would, but he didn't need us to tell him.

Diabetic Emergency...and a subsequent complaint. Your opinions, please?

Thank you. I have voiced my displeasure more than once about billing for refusals, but unfortunately, I know nothing, apparently. It is what it is. I'm interested to see where the complaint goes, honestly. If I have to run on him in the future, I'll make sure that I have LE with me.

Diabetic Emergency...and a subsequent complaint. Your opinions, please?

Thank you. He answered every A/O question, knew his name and his social, his address and phone number. I'll remember to call medical control (I start as a Paramedic tomorrow).
