EMT-I opportunities in Middle East, Africa, & Europe?

Only if you have SERIOUS military (combat) experience. Otherwise, there's nothing for you out there even if you're a medic.

    New EMT, Hiring process advice!

I've been in EMS since 1973 and I've never heard of PRBELLS, so don't feel alone. Your school sucks for sticking you with acronyms to memorise instead of concepts to understand.

    Arizona Paramedic Opportunities

Be aware that flight is dominated by nurses in AZ by state law. Their scope of practice far exceeds that of medics in that state. Consequently, medic jobs are nowhere near plentiful, even though helicopters are.

Are you a member of NAEMT?

Bingo. It's not a "bad" organisation, and I don't oppose them. As JPINFV said, those are all goals that all professionals should organise to strive for. It is just my proven observation that NAEMT, as structured, has no potential to ever achieve any of that. They do not fight for the...

    Any Factory EMT's out there?

You say that as if it were a bad thing!

    Arizona Paramedic Opportunities

Do you want a job or not? There are very few choices anywhere in AZ. EMS there is even worse than California. Darn few states have that distinction. Privates, hospital based, and even third services are always going to have "stigmas" as long as fire departments run the show, as they do in AZ.

    The Balance

Those who want to find balance will. Those who don't won't. It's that simple. It's a job, not a lifestyle.

Are you a member of NAEMT?

I was a member for many years, til the mid 90s. I was active, going to meetings, and participating in early development of programs like PHTLS. I gave up on them. They do NOTHING to accomplish any of the goals you mention. In fact, they stand in the way of a lot of progress in EMS with their...

    Any Factory EMT's out there?

I thought you meant EMTs who graduated from lame patch-factory schools, lol. They dominate EMS.

    in EMT school....have some ?'s

Not only does the sun and heat through the windshield eventually ruin your stethoscope tubing, but hanging it there makes you a target of anti-whacker cops like me.

    Venigard/Tegaderm over GSW

Yes, there is one. But no, hardly any civilian ambulances have them. Most just use a Vaseline gauze with the plastic or foil still attached. Seriously... are occlusive dressings not being taught in B school anymore? What about the differences between different types of chest wounds? This...

How does your agency deal with med errors?

LOL! That's so true. Although, there are some reasons for that disparity. Medics generally have a drug list of 20 or so, with half of them being prefills. And they are also usually only administered under very specific, cookbook protocols. There are darn few legitimate excuses for screwing...

What do you think about "Combat Hospital" on TV?

Horrible in every respect. I haven't been able to make it 10 minutes into any episode. Friggin' Canadians are ruining US television with all these lame, poorly written/directed/acted shows they're cranking out lately. Even if they fixed the technical gaffes, it would still suck.

    Venigard/Tegaderm over GSW

Seems to me like you are addressing two different situations with one answer. Not all sucking chest wounds have "pressure." That is a tension pneumothorax. A simple sucking chest wound is indeed treated with a simple occlusive dressing. No reason a Tegaderm wont work, if it is properly...

    Tourniquet?

Because, it's what the evidence suggests is best practice. Reading the studies should tell you that. The biggest problems with pressure points is that damn few EMTs outside of a combat zone will ever use them enough to become or stay competent at it, thus wasting precious time and blood. And...

    Venigard/Tegaderm over GSW

Exactly. No amount of pressure is going to stop internal haemorrhage. So, unless there is profuse external bleeding, there's not any need for a pressure dressing. Also, remember that a "pressure dressing" has potential to restrict the patient's breathing, so don't get crazy with it...

    Considering Career Change/Need Advice

Except in Floridia, where the majority of 911 jobs are taken by firemen, or Upstate NY, where they're taken by volunteers.

    Age limit for a medic?

The real question you need to consider is whether or not there are jobs for medics in your area at all, regardless of age. In most of the US, 911 jobs are far fewer than medics. There are a buttload of unemployed EMTs and medics out there. And yes, working on a non-911 transfer taxi is the...

What kind of underwear is best for EMS?

More than a mouthfu... Nevermind. I'm tired of being banned.
