Amen to the aversion to law enforcement type uniforms... Other professionals (or not so) I have been mistaken for while in my EMS uniform: -Security Gaurd -Police Officer ... and my favorite, by some lady in the psych ward... -Officer of Brutality Bottom line... we shouldnt be wearing cops...

I had a pt with a pain scale of 10/10 and right in the middle of telling me how bad her pain is her phone rings, she stops crying to answer, starts crying as soon as she hung up to finish her sad little plea for drugs.

That is so true... I cant believe I didnt realize it. The nurse was supposed to be off at 6, so he probably noticed he was dead when he went to give report before leaving. Niiiice.

Thanks guys... I am going to have to find out exactly what my protocol is here. The nurse was an RN not an LVN, just to clear things up. RN or not he was obviously stupid for starting CPR on such a dead person. It just makes me realize how important it is to be up to date on protocol because...

Ok, so my partner and I are taking a regular from the ED to a SNF and when we arrive on scene the SNF tells us they have a code going in another room and we should expedite and go work it. So we get the pt we had off of the gurney finish the run and proceed the the room wth the code in it...

I knew how to read it! I actually considered becoming a sonographer because my mom worked with ultrasound all the time as a nurse and let me come along sometimes and try and figure it out. Its very interesting! :D

Thats how things are run here... except it's usually 2 medics on the ambulance and at least 2 medics in the engine company. The only time BLS responds is if ALS downgrades it and doesnt want to transport. Usually ALS transports any call no matter how minor because the hospitals are so close it...
