New forum idea: Q&A with a member

EMS: Tell us about your EMS career. Why EMS? Volly or paid? Worst Call? Best Call? First Call? What instructor or coworker taught you the most about EMS? What do you wish new EMS workers knew or were taught that isn’t in the text books? What is the biggest challenge for EMS in your area...

    EMS “Speeches” for grade schoolers

I’m wondering if anyone has any advice, outlines, or other ideas for giving a talk to grade schoolers about EMS. How useful would a demonstration of an EMS examination be? I recently took part in a First Responders recognition event and people were generally excited by police cars, firetrucks...

    EMT Student - General Questions

The only thing I found really helpful were some study review guides, and a stethoscope and blood pressure cuff so I could practice taking BP. Good luck!

    Crew of 3?.......

My agency is all volunteer 911 response, working evenings, holidays and weekends. We generally have large teams, so most calls have four crew members, two EMTs minimum, but all combinations of Paramedic, EMTs, trainees, and observers. Apparently things go in cycles, a few years ago there was...

    VA new scope of practice?

These are the protocols for Western Virginia region. My EMT-B instructor said that last year was the first year that Virginia was using NREMT as their standard for what we should be learning in EMT-B classes. I'm guessing that is what the "new" skills are that you originally mentioned.

    VA new scope of practice?

It's my understanding that new protocols are still being rolled out, region by region. For Western Virginia, our new EMT-B protocols will include administering narcan and glucagon. There are a few other protocol changes, but the changes also include fixing typos and other minor corrections in...

    Instilling Confidence

It takes quite a few calls to gain that confidence. For me, it took a few that were totally out of my depth as well as a few that I should have been ready for. Then when I finally got the fairly straightforward call when I knew what the medic needed and she didn't have to ask me for it to really...

    Learning 10 Codes and Signals

Make it into Jeopardy, print pages onto 8.5x11 sheets of paper that can be flipped over to reveal the answers. Categories (across the top of the board) could be: Vehicle Status, Responses, Administrative, Radio Problems. Then the answers could either be "10-4" and they'd have to say "What is Ok...

How to Mark a Forum as Read?

Ok, I found the "Mark Forums Read" link at the top of the page, in the light blue menu on the far left. It's a bit annoying that I have to chose "this specific forum" or "all." I guess I'll get used to it though.

How do you mark a forum as read? I really don't want to have to click on every thread in each forum to mark it as read.

New Site Coming Saturday - August 9

Sigh. I hate change. But I do understand why you're needing to change to a new platform. I hope you're not using the same one that EMTCity just switched to. Best of luck getting everything migrated.

How soon after Your emt class did you take the nremt b?

I took it as soon as I could. My practicals/skill test were two days after class ended. The earliest I could get into an exam site was about three weeks after class ended. I kept studying during those three weeks though.
