Helping a newcomer create a good outline for narratives

I like using the DCHARTE method. Each letter gets a paragraph of detail about the call. Each letter is roughly in chronologic order. D: Dispatch information: What were you sent to? What units. Lights and siren? Where did you go? Where did you find the patient? C: Chief complaint: usually one...

    Facebook Privacy?

I could give specifics, but then I’d be violating patient privacy, and department policy. Plus imaging what I’m talking about is probably more gruesome and newsworthy than the real thing. Leave them wanting more. :) Thank you to everyone for sharing your thoughts, I do appreciate it.

    Facebook Privacy?

Our agency recently had a high profile call. It has been recommended that we change our names on our Facebook profiles and remove mention of our affiliation with our squad from our “About” section of our profiles. This is to prevent possible revenge taken on us if we get tracked down. Does...

    Former Membership Roster

I started looking through 1979’s folder, just because that is the stack of reports that was on top. The month of April had about 200 reports or so. There are eleven banker’s boxes total. So I’d estimate each box has 1,500 reports. So we’re looking at 16,000+ reports. In 1958 we ran 32 calls. In...

    Former Membership Roster

In the course of cleaning out my building, I found ALL of our old call reports from 1960-1988. They were buried in the back of a closet that was packed full of old equipment. While interesting to look through, we have no need to keep these old reports now. I’m going through them and building a...

Need idea feedback for software development

Items 1, 2, 3, and 7 from your list can be done with learning/flashcard tools like AnkiApp. Items 5 and 6 may also be done with AnkiApp, just with a little bit more work on the “flashcard” creation. I completed the survey, you didn’t have I-99 in the current level list.

    Questions for volunteers

The requirements will vary widely from agency to agency. Why not just call the agencies that you are interested n and ask if you can observe a few shifts? While there, you should "interview" the crew, learn what you can about the agency, then decide which one you'd like to be a part of. And of...

When Can you tell you are not cut out to be a Medic?

Isn’t burnout different from not being cut out to be a medic in the first place?

When Can you tell you are not cut out to be a Medic?

    It's a good question.

    Paramedic Psychomotor Exam

I totally understand your frustration. I tested for EMT-Intermediate 99 (I'm in Virginia) back in May. I passed everything at my school's test the week before they cleared us to sit for the certification psychomotor test day. On test day, I failed static cardiology. Failed the retest the same...

    Reimbursement of Volunteer’s uniform gear?

My volunteer agency is considering our reimbursement policies. Right now we reimburse our volunteers their EMT certification course and partial uniform costs after X months with us. We provide shirts, jackets. The member is expected to pay for boots, pants, and belt on their own. I’m just...

    Administrative help.

You should ask your state’s Office of EMS those type of questions. Hopefully that would be more accurate than a bunch of Internet folk from all over the country/world. Good luck!

    Internal Communication Website

We’ve been using a private Facebook group, combined with email. Sucks. We also have a desk calendar mounted on the wall of the day room, which works, but you have to be at the station to check for schedule changes or coverage requests. We’re testing a few systems. First up is EMS Toolkit, which...

Anki, Memrise, Khan: Pros, Cons, Suggestions?

I liked Anki a lot. Sometimes the syncing got a little funny, but eventually it all evened out. I used it on my iPhone, and then sometimes when I'd switch over to my iPad, the data files weren't in sync. But overall, it was helpful. Hint: Create the flashcards yourself. The act of entering in...

Conflicting answers in my EMT book

We were trained with five people needed: one on each limb, and one at the head. If one of those places isn’t restrained, the patient has some ability to cause harm. Then you also need the person (medic, aic, cop) who is going to do whatever treatment is needed (meds, cravats ties, handcuffs, etc…).

It most definitely hit the fan

Ummm, talk with your instructor, get their opinion. Your passing or failing of the exam reflects on them to a certain point. And be grateful it didn't strike in the middle of the practical exam. There's always a worse time for bad things to happen..

Ecuador 7.8 Earthquake: Community Leader Emeritus Seeks Help

A lot of concerns for proving aid press int themselves: supplies, language issues, Infrastructure (take a patient to the hospital? Is the hospital still able to be used?). Thank you for the work you're doing. Stay safe. The NBC News link doesn't work anymore.

    Paramedic malpractice

https://hpso.com but on Safari the site doesn't come up. Rates vary based on certification level, state, and how often you work. For Virginia, EMT, full-time, was around $162/year.
