    First EMT job in IFT

As an EMT, IFT really helped me with assessments and getting a flow down along with learning how to read charts/etc. It can become boring after awhile but really depends on where you work and if your doing ER trips or dialysis type runs. As a medic, I worked IFT again for a bit to feel more...

    How many hours a week?

I work 18 hours a week as a medic ( a 12 hr shift then a 6.5 hour “power car”) then work 40 hours a week as a anesthesia tech as local hospital. This works out better for me with part time status getting incentives for 911 shifts I pick up such as overtime rate for the shift.

It’s a MD resident and a MICN, both in room at same time.

Do you have to follow your Agency's clinical protocols exactly as written?

Pretty much yeah haha. Make no sense I know Example, I had prolonged transport and maxed out of fentanyl dose. Contacted base which stated cannot give more due to already giving max amount per protocol. But if I were to give an additional dose and justify it in PCR and with medical...

Do you have to follow your Agency's clinical protocols exactly as written?

Compared to other states, definitely not vague, but from my experience in neighboring counties it is haha. But then again I work in a state that medic protocols a very limited and not supported. Base is medical control along with notification. Few years ago they stopped allowing base...

Do you have to follow your Agency's clinical protocols exactly as written?

Example will be our copd/respiratory distress which states: perform BLS maneuvers/interventions. Consider albuterol/atrovent, consider CPAP, consider versed, consider intubation. As for going outside of, We can intubate and such if indicated without issues but cannot give additional...

Do you have to follow your Agency's clinical protocols exactly as written?

my protocols are very vague. so alot of room for clinical thinking, but we cannot go outside of what is stated in protocols unless truly justified also we cannot ask base station for additional orders not listed in protocols, which makes having a base station kinda useless other than for...

    Accelerated Paramedic Courses (Online/Hybrid)

I still get confused on these terms school wise haha but my didactic lectures were live twice a week but if you missed one you had up to 5 days to watch it. You can rewatch lectures as much as you liked. Didactic ended up being about 10 months if I remember correctly. Then two weeks of daily...

No reason for ALS. I would have BLS it especially if already in back of your rig and hospital is that close.

    Flight medic question regarding experience

Do you think going part time will prevent me from getting picked up in future? call volume I should be okay with. I average 8-9 calls in a 12hr shift pretty much daily

    Gold Coast Ventura County

I’m guessing you have to do at least 6 months at Gold Coast and then once a spot open at AMR for 911 you can transfer within. Of course this probably is based of seniority as well. As for having to “test” for the 911 gig, I am not 100% sure but I’m guessing you will have to redo a few FTO shifts...

Is Glucagon for unconscious hypoglycemia Pt. ?

I feel like it is dependent on each patient but I have had unconscious hypoglycemic patients respond well to IM glucagon, but have also had ones not respond at all to IM glucagon, with them having depleted glycogen stores.
