    Percom online

Yep. "1) The program must have a formal relationship with a physician currently authorized to practice in each state where the program’s students are participating in patient care, to accept responsibility for the practice of those students. " That's the interpretation that just...

    Online/hybrid Paramedic Program Success Stories?

Yep. That's how they do the exams. You're one on one with the proctor for the testing session. I completed my AEMT (P1) through percom while I was in Iraq and it worked out great for me. I would already be finished with the Paramedic (P2) class, but I ended up doing a bunch of other out of...

The real story behind the 12 week medic McCook NE

Agreed! If it wasn't for an "online/hybrid" program, I would not have accomplished what I have at this point. 6 years as an EMT-B and I just could not find a school/work situation that was feasible. I went overseas for a year to work, and got my AEMT through the percom program. I was sitting in...

    Too old?

yeah, this is true. Civil service departments cut off at 36. And I've seen more and more job ads for non civil service departments saying no older than 35-36 too. then again, there are so many new fresh 23 year old grads out there, that you have a huge uphill battle anyway. your mileage may...

    EMT-B Study guide

Best study guide out there in my opinion is the current DOT EMT-Basic Curriculum. Search for "Emergency Medical Technician-Basic: National Standard Curriculum" - it's the nhtsa.gov link with the PDF file. Seriously, it has a lot of great information in it.

    Comprehensive Health Services

I just finished up a 12 month contract with them. It was decent. The working conditions are good. EMS call volume is very low and you'll be in the ER most of the time. 6 x 12 hour days. Food is decent (usually KBR chow hall), housing is ok (called a CHU - imagine a small box, but at least you'll...

Moving to Dallas from Denver. What's your take on the ambulance services there?

I would advise you to get your Texas DL as soon as possible. Which part of Dallas? Just the city or a surrounding town? On the Dallas side, there's AMR, Allegiance, TLC, Guardian, CareFlite, and a few other smaller services that have fewer than 4 trucks. (Integhearty or something is one of them.)

    Burning Man

Hi. Me again! I have been on the staff there since 2007 (on the Burning Man side, not HGH) and I can say that it's a lot of fun but it's definitely not for everybody. If you are unfamiliar with the event, please see the website - burningman.com There is NO commercial vending. No food...

    Chs iraq job

Yeah, I realize that. Not my decision to make. I was sick of having people say "Oh, that place? but I read that (string of BS posted by someone with an axe to grind)" - Like I said, I wanted to post another side of it. I know how the contracting world is, so posting something positive to show...

    Chs iraq job

Sorry for bumping an ancient thread, but.... Yes, I know that the thread is WAY old but it keeps showing up on searches. I asked an admin to delete the thread because it's really not relevant anymore, but it's still here, so.... I have to point out that the parent post is sour grapes...

    AEMT school in Dallas??

Not yet... I called CareFlite about it and they told me that the coursework hasn't been completely finished yet. Medstar simply told me "Nope, try CareFlite." Training Division has nothing on their website either. hmmm...

    sphygmomanometer cuffs

Those little digital ADC sphygomomanometers are pretty cool because they're self-calibrating, hard to destroy, lightweight, accurate, and have a decent warranty. They're not too expensive either. At the rate we keep having sphygomomanometers going out of whack or getting broken where I work...
