Funny one liners you've said to overheard to a patient

My partner and I responded to a female c/o abd pain with n/v. Pain is coming in waves. As soon as she is in the rig, she says she feels like she is gonna puke. My partner gives her a vomit bag which she proceeds to fill with approx 150 ml of red fluid. My partner at first thinks blood. I'm...

Why does EMT job pay so little money?

Again, here in Canada, EMS pays well. It may be due to the subsidized health care. The ambulance service I work for is part of a regional network. We are part of Alberta Health Services/ Peace Country Health. We are affiliated with each hospital in each city/town that we work in. I primarily...

    Your perfect ambulance

As far as the "Attendant" seat, we call that the "air chair". It's purpose is somewhere to sit while bagging. The new Modular that we got has digital temp controls in the back. It also has a seperate volume knob for the rear speakers. Well lit. Well organized. House O2 is accessible from inside...

What shape should EMTs/Medics Be In

I must admit, I am terrible out of shape. I'm 41 and been smoking for 20+ years. I'm about 40 lbs overweight. I injured my back during training in the Army when I was 19 and it still bothers me from time to time. However, I recently did 2 days of OT to cover for one of our employees who hurt his...

Why does EMT job pay so little money?

I live and work in Northern Alberta. The winter gets down to -40C at times. Average is around -30ish. However, we currently have 2 full time positions open. And we have some really sweet high-vis yellow jackets. And nothing gets your blood pumping like being on the side of the road, in knee deep...

Why does EMT job pay so little money?

I worked in L.A. County when I first became an EMT-B. I worked for AMR and made $7.80/hr. Shortly after, I moved to Alberta. I worked as an EMR (EMT-B equivelant) in the oilpatch while I worked towards my EMT equivelancy. I made $175/day. Now, I have my EMT registration and I work for a...

    ok, i need help

My point was simply, don't correct someone unless you are correct yourself. I wasn't correcting anyone on their command of written English. Only that they were correcting someone while being incorrect. p.s. the plural form of thesis is THESES. LOL p.p.s. I had to proofread this a few...

    ok, i need help

Upon further review, I did mention spelling. My error. I stand corrected and apologize. However, I am more than willing to go head to head on spelling with anyone on this site.

    ok, i need help

I don't always have the time to read every post. And, as far as my spelling, I do make the occasional mistake. However, I wasn't correcting anyone. I was only pointing out that you shouldn't correct someone and then make a similar mistake in your very next sentence. I didn't mention spelling...

    ok, i need help

As far as using correct grammar and spelling, I noticed the two posters that mentioned it used incorrect puntuation. And, one of them even ended a sentence with a preposition. As I learned in the Army, you cannot correct someone without being correct yourself.

I'd love to hear an experienced opinion on this....

Luckily, we are allowed to obtain BGL's all the way down to the EMR level (EMT-B equivelant). Obtaining a BGL is almost habit here. Since abnormal glucose levels can cause many symptoms. Every altered pt we have gets an immediate BGL. And, I like that I can obtain one myself or with whomever i...

    XBOX 360!! Help please.

I have an Xbox 360 Elite. The main difference is the larger hard drive and HDMI capability. I have used 20G of the hard drive space because I downloaded a game from Xbox live. It's a good, cheap source for older games. Other than that, a 20G should be fine. If you get a memory card, there's...

What is your most ridiculous call?

Had a transfer for a 42 y/o male complaining of priapism x 18 hours. Woke up a 2 in the morning with an erection, and when we picked him up at 8 pm, he was still goin'. During my assessment, I asked him to describe the pain. He said, "Throbbing. Every time my heart beats". He had a PR of 92...

So, I hit a dog yesterday.

As far as moose vs. car/truck/vehicle, I will see if I can download the pics I got from a moose vs. GMC Sonoma last November. The truck was a total write off. The driver is lucky he wasn't decapitated (the moose, however, was). Driver was transported with severe facial lac (approx 6 cm), and a...

    Gay in EMS?

As near as I can tell, the same theme seems to be coming thru. Noone here appears to have a problem working with anyone as long as they are skillful and do their job well. I don't judge who I work with by anything more than how well they do their job. As well, I don't treat my patients any...

    Driving policy

We work 24 hour shifts with 2 crews. 12 hours on duty, and 12 on call. When a crew reaches 12 hours, they start clocking overtime and when they reach 16 hours, they are considered "Timed out" and the other crew starts taking calls. We are required to notify the on call District Manager when we...

    Volunteer incentive programs

Our EMS service is part of a health region. So, we all work full time (excluding the smaller town to the North of us) However, our FDs are volunteer. While there is one service North of us that I absolutely LOVE working with because of their dedication and proffessionalism, I don't much care for...
