    New Army Ambulance

wow, hard to believe they are US Army Ambulances; I work for the US Army on a base and ours say "Ambulance" on them. No where except the license plates does it show they are even Federal Government. Same with most bases I am in contact with

    Good Glucometer for jump bag

Some places you can get a free Glucometer, the strips cost money. My old company used to buy them 20 at a time, and keep a couple extra glucometers and then just keep the strip vials

How do EMTs deal with suicidal adolescents?

Get them young, hook them and keep them

Narc storage. How are you doing it?

Our drugs (Morphine, Fentanyl, Valium {Phasing out next month}, Versed and Ketamine) are in clear impact resistant boxes, which are tagged with yellow or green numbered tags, then tagged with Red numbered tags when they are broken open, until 1 of the 2 Narcotic people check and restock them...

    Dumbest Questions People Ask You

I had that a couple of weeks ago: including I could have gotten there faster if my wife drove me. Which I replied "I told you that at your house".

A Canadian and want to be a Paramedic in the U.S. Is going to college in Canada faster or should I take the course in the US? Which one is safer?

Supposedly they do, or at least require more education. I have worked with medics with Associate and Bachelor degrees, they don't seem to be any better medics than I am with my cert. But most of them can't write a run report to save the patients life

Question about EMT certification in another state (CA to AZ)

Try navigating Nevada: they told everyone to send in recert early this year (Mar 1st for 31st renewals) or it wouldn't be processed in time. I sent mine in January 15th and I am still waiting. I did receive an e-mail stating that I can work until I get the actual cert, but it is in...

A Canadian and want to be a Paramedic in the U.S. Is going to college in Canada faster or should I take the course in the US? Which one is safer?

I doubt there are many places that will let you work in the US with a Canadian Certification. I have seen from many different websites, including here; that Canada won't allow US medics to come work there without going through their programs.

Question on EMS college degree vs Paramedic certification

The Paramedic Degree may never expire; but the paramedic certification or license (depending on the state) will. I have friends that went to a Degree school for paramedic (in fact my program was 14 months for paramedic cert or 24 months for AS Degree). But they were told every few classes that...

how much fuel to you use during a shift?

PT: We fill up after we leave the hospital when we get to safe station. Then again when we get home. Sometimes we go to the scene, come back to town and fill up then drive the patient to the hospital It is 110-130 miles 1 way to the hospital from base area, and we can go up to 70 miles (140...

    Humoral EZ/IO and Lucas Devices

It would be silly, but it that is the only option for IV/IO access, better than nothing. The last patient I cardioverted due to unstable SVT, took almost 30 minutes to get BP up and I ended up drilling his Tibia for IO access. After a fluid bolus we were able to get his BP up over 100 S. but...

    Humoral EZ/IO and Lucas Devices

Yea; well our new protocols don't allow Cardioversion unless the patient is unstable; but if you leave a patient in SVT long enough they will become unstable. And with a 80 mile transport that is hard on patients

    AMR Waitlist

I see that there is a wait list in a lot of AMR's locations which in some doesn't make any sense. A friend and former co-worker went to work for AMR in Denver/Colorado Springs area, and they made her wait almost 90 days before she started. They are advertising for 35 or so people and started...

    Humoral EZ/IO and Lucas Devices

The Humoral you can push Adenocard through it and get it to the heart in time to do some good. And you can push a lot more fluid through it

Questions about EMS in the Old Northeast and Mid-West

Fired EMT claims police impeded care

Huh; Where I work a person in custody or under arrest can refuse treatment and care. Until they go before the judge and are found guilty of something they are NOT in State or County care, and any medical care is still paid for by the person. We have officers try a lot to get us to transport...

    Medic no more...

I hope to make it to 67 at my FT job, so that I can collect full SS benefits. plus increase my retirement by another 9 years. Never worked anywhere else that had decent retirement except Radio Shack back in the 1990's and when they crashed I lost $200K in stock that was my retirement and I...
