Going on calls without someone to hold my hand...

So I've gone on a couple of calls in the unit by myself. Usually someone else will show up shortly after but I am still freaking out going it alone. I know I know what I'm doing because I passed the tests but good lord... I feel like a bumbling idiot. I feel like I'm rushing through...

    Volunteering and employment

My city only hires paramedics and fire fighters. Usually they are one in the same. Very hard to get in. Shelley is all volunteer. You get on the schedule for a truck and/or radio and work your shift. You get paid for the call you went on. Not many other options out here. We are...

    Volunteering and employment

Where I live you have to live in the county you work/volunteer for. Shelley is about the only area within close proximity to me that doesn't work that way. I think because they rely on my cities ambulance and hospital. The third call I went on I actually got to use the oxygen tank...

    Volunteering and employment

Right now I am currently volunteering with a local QRU. They have a minimum of doing 24 hours a month to be with them. I have done that plus more for the month, but can only do once a week due to my husbands schedule, the kids, and the fact that I don't live in the city where I volunteer...

Post the # your test stopped at, and if you Passed/Failed

Tcass... Where I live if you aren't a FF you really can't get hired either, so I have taken on a volunteer position so that I can at least gain experience. You get paid if you go on a call but otherwise just hang around when on shift. Maybe you need to look at that to at least keep your...

    I have a call number now ;)

And I am so freaking nervous! I will be with a volunteer QRU and feel really intimidated. Not so much from the people (well, maybe a little) but mostly that I feel like I know absolutely nothing yet. I feel really weak at vitals and just feel like my memory of all of the things I have learned...

Post the # your test stopped at, and if you Passed/Failed

I felt like it just kept asking me questions in the same two or three areas.. It was odd. Pregnancy, burns and knee injuries...

What is the best way to get hired for jobs not directly EMT related?

I'm talking things like working at urgent cares, er's, etc. I think the 'I just got my EMT-B cert' isn't cutting it. BTW, I live in an area where if you aren't a FF then you can't be an EMT in the city. Yet I don't live in the counties where they are hiring/taking EMT volunteers... Urgh

Post the # your test stopped at, and if you Passed/Failed

I took my test this afternoon and have no clue what number I was on. I think I was in there for maybe an hour, if that. Can't wait to see if I passed, although I feel like I bombed. And I already took and passed my practical, but the NREMT site isn't showing those results. Would they be on...
