    The Official EMTLIFE Introduction Thread

Hello Everyone, I am in the SF Bay Area. I'm doing my EMT through a distance program in the LA area. I'll be doing clinical rotations in the later part of the year. I intend to enroll in the Paramedic Program at Sacramento State next fall and then eventually continue on into medical school at...

    Online EMT-P advice??

He'll probably find something then but like you said good quality programs will come with a skills session. Hearing the word "minimum" when it comes to education in healthcare is just icky  Regardless hope it works out. I know how it feels to have to work 40 hours a week at your "day...

Courses to take to prepare for Paramedic school?

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned it but, I found my communications class to be highly useful. I'm a math and science nerd and had that all out of the way and I'm sure many have mentioned those...But, if you're looking for electives etc that could supplement it I highly recommend Communication...

    Online EMT-P advice??

I have used hybrid programs for both my nursing assistant license and now my EMT-B certification. I think a hybrid program can be done and I think it's best done by someone with a medical background (which you have). However, in an earlier post you said you can't really be away 2-3 days at a...

    Shifts in California? Hours?

Hello, I was wondering how do you differentiate ALS from BLS companies? Is ALS primarily Paramedics? I am assuming they hire mostly paramedics? It may require a very simple answer just where I am from it was more rural so it was usually a paramedic and an EMT-B.

    Shifts in California? Hours?

I live in Oakland so I'm definitely considering the East Bay. However, I'm interested in working in Rural Communities as well. From my experience back home...Rural Communities utilize EMT's for 911 along with the Paramedics...That meaning Paramedics are always on a call obviously but, usually...

    Shifts in California? Hours?

I just saw you're with AMR. :) Nice to hear from someone who works for AMR. It was one of the agencies I was considering. I hear though they have like 100 applicants for every EMT-B position. It's worth a shot though!

    Shifts in California? Hours?

Thank you for all the information. What company are you with down in Santa Cruz? Since finding a position in an ER has been difficult I may try to find a position with an EMS Agency. My scheduling abilities are pretty much ANY 12 hour night shift any day and any day/night on the weekend...

    Shifts in California? Hours?

Hello, So I am new to California...Only been here a few years. I know the EMS agencies back home were all county or city affiliated. Since moving to California I've noticed A LOT of private companies. What are the standard shifts like for these companies usually? Are they 24 hour? 8...

Lenoir Community College online medic program?

Did you find out more about how the program works? How much time do you spend at the actual college? Is it split up? I couldn't find out the schedule portion on the LCC website.

    Splinting

HeHe I recall a moment when I was asked by an RN to remove the drains from a patient. I got a good laugh...I knew better :) Some nurses thoroughly enjoy taking the scut work of their techs tooooo far. However, sutures are interesting :)

    Splinting

I definitely by no means agree with the policy. I agree that drug pushing and defibrillation should be done by a nurse. But, with the MD and nurse right there I can't say I'd say "no" if they asked me to do a task that I am trained to do and have done before as long as it's within my scope of...
