My normal unit is an Excellance remount that has been reconfigured to match a Frazer. So far it’s been my favorite. Little more size than a Frazer so I can stand up and move a little easier. It’s on a Chevy 3500 with liquid spring and underhood generator. I love it.
We’ve got some Demers...
AMR San Antonio does a little bit of 911 in Medina and Frio counties but that’s about 2 hours south of Austin. The rest of AMR in central Texas is IFT only.
Im at 17 years of EMS time. First 8 months was 24/48 as an EMT then 16 months of 8hr dispatch shifts that rotated every month.During that time I was paramedic school that met on various nights/days. The last 15 years have been working as a paramedic on 12hr shifts on a 2-2-3 rotation. My wife...
And we don't trust the night shift folks. I spend at least 15mins in the morning replacing their supplies and fixing what they messed up.
days are easier to fly under the radar here. One Sup for nearly double the trucks in the daytime versus night.
Yep same for me. A 12HR OT shift is about double what an 8hr teaching day is. But that means 12hrs in an ambulance bouncing between street corners, getting run in the ground and usually getting off late. I get enough of that on my regular shift lol.
So I'll take the teaching. The influence we...
I get enough of the ambulance on my normal shifts. I like teaching and it's for 4 or 8 hours instead of 12+ hours like OT on the ambulance is. I still make plenty of extra $$ without being away from the family as long. My wife teaches full time at the same place i do part time so I get to harass...
I teach/precept part time for a local paramedic program. Same one as STXmedic works at. Most of my off days I'm teaching at least half day there.
I refuse to work OT at the full time place so the side money is nice.
I've got an older Klein hard tail I bought used when it was about 3 years old and I was riding nearly everyday. It has a Mix of 8 speed XT and LX components. The frame doesn't fit me anymore but to get a new/newer bike of comparable quality will be $$$$$.
I'd love to start riding again so I've...
5kw running watt Generator and a window AC unit is a must for hurricane prone areas. Along with enough gas to last 3-4 days. That's a big enough gen to run lights, tv, fridge, freezer, and an AC.
The 2 times we outside people come in to help it was a mess. They tried to take over and tell us...
What's with all the excitement about deploying and working a storm? It's a pain in the ***! Did my share on the coast including Katrina. I'll pass.
Fwiw we came off the road at 50mph sustained winds and FD quit going at 60mph. Exceptions were made depending on the nature of call though and the...
