Cutting the Cord: Scalpel or Shears?

That was my thinking as well, but she was extremely insistent. Of course, a lecturer could be wrong...I was just wondering if I was missing something that negated the use of the scalpel.

Cutting the Cord: Scalpel or Shears?

During OB/Gyn class, the lecturer made it a point to instruct us to use shears versus the scalpel that's typically in the pre-packed kit. I understood it to be more for safety than a medical issue. However, as far as I know, we don't typically carry sterile shears. Is there any clear guidance on...

Major CT health system buys ambulance company and affiliates. What the goal is.

The "why" is always what stumps me. Every part of the medical world complains non-stop that there's no money in medicine - and yet, they keep buying into it more and more. And EMS is a money pit under the best circumstances, so I truly don't know what's actually going on.

    AI Usage within EMS

We have the "AI" enabled in ESO for PCRs. As mentioned above, it just compiles data from the rest of the chart. Put in that you gave 50mcg of fent, it'll generate "50mcg of fent given via IV". It's absolute garbage.

    NR BLS Inactive to ALS

I was required to get NR for BLS about 13 years ago, but let it lapse because I didn't need or care for it. I did maintain my state license. Now I'm wrapping up medic school and was just told by someone anecdotally that I would have to be active NR as BLS to be able to take the ALS test. Can...

    Ideas for EMS Morale Patches

I've seen a lot of the 'edgy' patches come and go, and I think it comes down to the fact that the edgy patches are too edgy for the field, so where would they be worn? Nothing wrong with making some more positive designs, and you may even get departments to buy them - or stick to the insider...

Falck San Diego not meeting contractual agreements

Absolutely mind-blowing. Why weren't penalties in the contract?

There's someone in the back of our unit!

Sorry, I meant to be a bit clearer...I was referring to the "pressing charges". Of course, they should both get the Silver Bracelet Award, but as far as wasting energy and time going to court, I'd fight a drunk over a EDP. A drunk may learn a lesson, but the EDP will still want to continue...

There's someone in the back of our unit!

Personally, I'd get more pissed off at the drunk, than at the woman. Drunk is not a mental issue or imbalance...that guy went out and got drunk. His being drunk is not a good excuse to have assaulted or threatened to assault me, next time don't get drunk. Mental illness, though, is rarely a...

New C_Spine Precautions - Southwest CT

I apologize, I misspoke...I was referring to that the last few boardings I've done. I don't currently work for any service, I was just mentioning my experiences of board-and-collars.
