Legally, can a 16 year old EMT...

Can a 16 year old EMT respond on the ambulance with a 40 year old first responder, who functions as a driver? The 16 year old would be alone in the back. I'm asking about PA law.

How did you learn to intubate?

Yeah, I never pulled back. I was very conscious of the teeth. I never got past the tip of the tongue. I just stopped because I didn't know what to do. And, they immediately took it out of my hands and did it for me. I didn't mind that, but being told to "watch" for the rest of the rotation...

How did you learn to intubate?

I think their head was too flexed and I couldn't even get the blade past the tip of their tongue because the handle was on their chest. Similar to pic below. http://utenti.unife.it/giampaolo.garani/Trauma/Trauma-Ped/Fig-caso/intubate.jpg

How did you learn to intubate?

So, I'm not a paramedic. I'm a 3rd year med student who just started my anesthesia rotation. Up to this point, I've been intubating plastic heads with no body. Today, they let me try to intubate a real patient. I started by opening their mouth with the scissor technique. I slid the...

What are the requirements to teach con-ed courses?

I'm from PA. From what I've heard, you have to be either a certified EMT instructor or "an expert in the field that you are teaching" to instruct con-ed courses. I'm graduating med school in May, and I would love to teach some classes to the department I volunteer with after I graduate. There's...

    Quick asthma question

I think someone once told me that when an asthmatic is starting to crash, the wheezes stop (because they cannot generate enough force to get air out of their lungs) and their O2 sat may still be 100% (for some reason, which I forgot??)

    Quick asthma question

If you have an asthmatic with a severe exacerbation and their pulse ox is 100%. Why might that be?

How to get info from the hospital about a patient you took care of

Hi! Our service took care of a badly injured child a few weeks ago. We did a critical incident stress debriefing, but the child's doctor wouldn't release any info about the him so we could update everyone. We were directly involved in the patient's care so I don't understand the red...

I'm an EMT and a med student on rotations. Question about EMT documentation.

So, I feel a little conflicted when I write up EMS PCRs. I've always tried to write the tripsheets in accordance with what I learned in EMT school, but I'm now wondering if I should document things that I've learned to identify in med school. For example, if the patient has decorticate...

Where do I find the most recent AHA CPR guidelines?

Thanks. EDIT: The website gives the 2005 guidelines. Are these the most recent?

    Quick grant question

On the AFG application, do you score higher if the department has line of duty injuries? In 2008, one EMT got their fingers caught in the stretcher. It bruised but no treatment was required. In 2007, an EMT pulled a muscle lifting an obese patient. Ice and rest was all that was required...

Huh? What's ground clearance for an ambulance?

We currently have a 1997 Ford E350 Wheeled Coach Type III Ambulance. How do I figure out it's "ground clearance"? We're using this info for a grant application. Thanks in advance!
