Does care ambulance require their emts to have previous emt work experience? How hard is it to get the job? It seems like a very busy and appealing area to work.
Am I missing something here? They run 911 calls with x2 EMT BLS units? Does dispatch do the triaging and send ALS (medic) units to the calls requiring higher level of care? Do Care BLS units run traditional IFT calls (discharge, dialysis, code 2 to ED, 5150) at all?
I just checked their...
Here's a bit of a twist. I went on a police ride along a while back and although we did not respond to anything medical, I wonder now if it would have been a good idea to help if something had come up. Naturally, I would have jumped in but I wonder then what the expectations are in terms of the...
Good idea to call ahead and make an appointment? Do I have a pretty good chance of running into the ops manager at the base during "normal" business hours (9-5)?
I had a similar experience. About half of the new hire group had a BA/BS. I don't think that it really makes a difference. A lot of the fire candidates don't need a bachelors and therefore won't get one. This doesn't make them less qualified for jobs or less competitive in the application...
I tried searching but couldn't find this discussed. My national registry is expiring soon. If I only plan to work on my current state (CA), do I need to bother with renewing my national reg too?
That may be the case now. I used to work for Protransport and I did not have a fit test. This was 1 year ago and it was for the Oakland station. It may be different in Santa Clara operations or it may be different altogether now but I am almost certain that everyone in my hire group (Richmond...
I am sorry to hear that. Have you applied to other companies in the area? Not sure what part of the bay area you are willing to work but some companies do not have PAT requirements (ex. Protransport). The bigger companies are the ones that tend to have the lift tests (AMR, R/M, Falck, Paramedics...
We are not allowed to work out while on the clock at my company. Management says that any potential injuries would count as work disability. I know of graveshift crews that will go to the local 24 hour gyms and lift on slow nights. I think it's a great idea and way to stay awake at 2 or 3 in the...
