    Peadiatric Death

I'd put on a 4 lead or defib pads and hit up med direction on the cell phone. Pt would probably be asystolic by that point. If I told the doc "20+ minute downtime, asystolic in 2+ leads, lividity present", I'd bet that 90% would tell you to call it, regardless of age. If I have anything other...

Just broke the seal on an airline jump kit

It won't let me paste the picture into this, but I found a list of what was contained in those medical kits. It's basically an Intermediate(85) jump kit, with some I-99 meds. It contains a 500cc bag of NS, line, IV caths, IM needles, Benadryl, D-50, Nitro tabs, Epi 1:1,000, Epi 1:10,000...

    saline-lok opinion

Lock vs Line is our judgement call here. A Line can always be screwed onto the lock later. On drunk/non-cooperative/dependent patients I try to throw on a lock first since as a CNA I know how much of a pain it is to try and change someone from street clothes to a gown when they have a line in...

    Cardiac Arrest. Your first time..

I'd been running for about 5 months at 60hrs/week (Volunteer) before I got my first code. Luckily, we had myself (a still very fresh EMT-B at the time) my Medic partner, and an EMT-B with approx 5 years experience that jumped on as a third. We also had a deputy who is an Intermediate and who...

    EMT Boot Camp Starts Monday

Yeah. Jan 22- May 17, Tuesday nights, 1800-2130. Total of I think 8 Saturday "Labs" (I'll check the schedule later to make sure, It's literally 0-dark-hundred right now), 8 hours each. I know it met the 120 hours minumum, but just barely. If we missed a single class or lab we were out...

    EMT Boot Camp Starts Monday

Haha. This is getting interesting. Let me clarify my earlier comments. I did NOT say that I wanted my 4 month Basic course condensed to two weeks. I did say that I want it condensed from the 4 months. In my 4 month Basic class, we met ONCE A WEEK. For 3 freakin' hours. Need to learn...

Post the # your test stopped at, and if you Passed/Failed

90% of the test is scenarios to make sure that the care you provide to patients would be proper and not innefective or causing further damage to your patient. Go back through your book and run through possible scenarios. ex. You come up on a 32 yr old female patient who is having...

Post the # your test stopped at, and if you Passed/Failed

I feel for ya. It sucks. After I took mine I checked honestly every 10-20 minutes for the first 4 hours. Then I fell asleep and was woken up to my BlackBerry alerting me to my congrats letter from the NREMT. Try to be patient.

    EMT Boot Camp Starts Monday

If the test is NREMT you find out online, usu. same day. Learn the basics by heart. Know vital signs. Know CPR like none other. (ex. 2 professional rescuer CPR on a child = 15:2) Don't worry about ANY ALS skills. Yes, they're fun to know. No, they won't help you on the test. Worry about...

75, Pass. You find out under "Check Application Status" Mine only took about 5 hours to get back. They should also send you an email.

    Ambulance Vouyerism?

The whole "voyeurism" thing is completely normal. However, it does wear off. I remember as a kid I was so interested in accidents that would happen on this intersection behind my house that I would get out binoculars to more accurately see what the victims looked like and what the FFs were...

Need an opinion on an MOI

odd how little bullet wounds and penetrations like that actually bleed, huh? I agree with the others. Looks like a high-powered rifle round grazing down from the pattern of the neck wounds and into the shoulder area. Perhaps he flinched forward as he felt it graze his neck?

Need help in using a stryker gurney...

Dunno if it's specific to the exact make of the gurney, but on the strykers here, there's only a couple of things to remember, as Linuss already touched on. Unloading Step 1. Push the red and/or black handle forward. This will release the latch that is holding the gurney in place. Using...

    Ambulance Driver's License (ADL)

...You did what? :excl: It's great that you want to get into EMS. Really, it is. But it's stunts like this that will keep you out of it. You're on a public board. People can figure out who you are from your postings on here. You just posted how you willfully broke numerous laws. You...

    Ambulance Driver's License (ADL)

Never fails to remind the paragods that they were once basics too. Surprisingly, many don't need reminding. ^_^ As far as ADLs in NV go, from what our new Ambulance Director told me, they're not necessary. You need NREMT-B cert, NV State EMT-B cert, and Ambulance Attendant's License. (Must be...
